I have recently changed the head gasket on my L5 after finaly getting around to taking it for a test ride i noticed the revs where very slow to fall back down when i got back. i selected neutral and revved the bike to around 4000 and it took about 4 seconds to fall then it cut out. I then tried re starting but i had to use the choke even when warm slowly let the choke off revs fell slowly again then cut out. is the air fuel mix or air leak?

CaNsA's on the money with this one. Quick way to double check is spray some easy start at the rubbers while the engine is ticking over. If it suddenly revs its bollox off that's yer leak confirmed. Easy enough fix - either seat them properly or replace if perished.
