iv got a race exhaust for MOT. HELP!
i have my bike MOT on friday at wheel -fit motorcycles, and i have just relised the full system that i have says not for road use on the underside of the tip. would it make any difference if i filed off the "not for road use" or do i have to get a standard exhaust.

if it says "not for road use", it will fail an MOT
otherwise, it's down to the testers discretion, so you never know till you try.

new mot laws state if the exhaust is louder then factory fitted std oem items it will fail wether it say for road use or not for road use.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

however the tester, having no access either to a noise meter or an identical bike with standard can...will use his discretion.

I've got a strate though Avvy system on my ZXR750 what makes car alarms go off a ears bleed...its got "NOT FOR ROAD USE" and "RACE USE ONLY" writen all over and the mot tester ask if i've got the standard pipe to what i said yes and its sailed though
If it failes and not declaired unsafe to ride then you get 10 days to fix the problems they failed it on if that happens i've got a spare standard can for the 400 in my shed

I went to the place beforehand and asked if the can was ok.
They said "I can't hear it." He called to the other mechanic "Can you here it?"
"No." came the reply.
So they said it would be fine.
Never mind the fact that the bike was switched off while I was inside asking!
It's their discretion, and most will be ok about it.... UNLESS it has 'Not for road use' - in which case they can't pass it.

like i said mine HAS got this on it and its passed every time.Jamz wrote:UNLESS it has 'Not for road use' - in which case they can't pass it.
I think it just deepens on who's testing it and weather the Mrs hasent put out for the last 3 days or not..
Also a MOT tester cannot remove anything from the bike so your alowed to stick tape over things (e.g. the NOT FOR ROAD USE SIGHN) and there not alowed to look under it

A couple of years ago I would have pissed myself laughing at that statement.Gemini wrote:i also heard that if u polish off the 'NOT' in 'not for road use' then if the old bill pull you over, not only is your bike ...

Now its just another 'Detection' off the list for this month.

the police are really lax on these things now, it was in a few mags saying that the police no longer bother with doing you for number plates, inted visors or race cans just not worth there time. Unless of course your being a dick and they want a reason to pull you
from personal experiance i've got all 3 and havent been done for it in the last 3 years i've been rideing
