Front spindles???

Are the front spindles interchangeable in every ZXR 400 models? I have forks from unknown year of ZXR and I need a spindle for that. How can I tell what years forks I have??

Im think im right in saying H models have slightly longer forks than the L, or it could be the other way around. But according to the microfiches they have the same part number for the spindle so it seems it doesnt matter what they are off of.
