Hi, just had a race at Donington this weekend and have found my brakes have let me down, does anyone know what i can do to upgrade them and what the rules will allow me to do. Cheers

you can probs get a better pair cheaper if you look around, they are gsxr 600/750 k1/k2 calipers. very good. dont bother with the 1000's 6pots...they dont work aswell.

you will have to drill and tap the holes out to fit, and use small spacers.

Sounds good, are you using the standard brake lever/master cylinder

i was, changed it for a later radial gsxr type...but to be honest, the original zxr one was just as good.

I'm using a ZX10R radial master cylinder with just the standard calipers.................and I find it an excellent brake.
regular brake fluid changes help too

I use standard Kawasaki pads

H (SP) model calipers, OE discs, EBC hh pads, braided lines, fresh racing brake fluid here and my brakes are great .. but then .. im toad

It was a little tricky getting the hoses bolted to the master cylinder cos the banjos were really intended to go on a standard 400 master cylinder.
But with a little care it just bolted straight on.

As a bonus the ZX10 master cylinder has a bled nipple which help getting fluid in and air out

£250 well spent when your trying to stop an R1 flat out down the back straight at Snett in to the left hander after about 15 laps

gsxr 600k2 modded calipers. pt racing 19x18 radial master cylinder. sbk3 pads. dot 5.1 fluid and cast discs. stops on a sixpence. park straight at cadwell you can hit the brakes at the 50 yard point and still stop fast enough.

I'm using GSXR1000K2 sixpots with the GSXR1000K2 master cylinder as well. The bolt holes line up perfectly, they're just a different size bolt, but that's easily sorted with a drill and tap. I was amazed at how easy it was to line them up. The K2 was the last GSXR1000 to use non radial calipers I think. They make a big difference in my opinion, they weren't leaps ahead in terms of power, but they gave heaps more feel and confidence. If my budget had allowed I would have gone for a Brembo adjustable master cylinder as well, but they're not cheap. Don't under estimate the difference that braided hose can make as well.. well worth doing.

Incidentally there are a set of Fireblade calipers on ebay at the moment which have been modded to fit a ZXR400. They were listed today and come with braided hoses and master cylinder attached. I haven't contacted the seller or asked about them, but they caught my eye because I've seen a few racers using them in the paddock... worth a look, but you might have to bid against me!

Sorry I'm crap at adding links and stuff (it's my age) and I'll admit I've no idea how to do it... but they were listed today 17th at about mid day and they are starting at £80.. I think thats a bit of a bargain as it includes the M/C and braided hoses.. If anyone else knows how to put up a link maybe they could oblige if they have got a minute to have a look at ebay tonight?
