advice
i blew the head gasket on my bike, the bike didn't cost me that much and because of the amount of work involved with getting it all fixed properly i dont think its gonna be worth doing.
i was thinking of seeing if i could sell it like it is just to get a little bit of extra cash towards anothers but cnt reli see me getting owt, so i was thinking i might try and strip it down and keep what ever good parts i want and sell/weigh in the rest.
the only thing is i haven't got any experience doing this and it might be harder than im thinking, but there are some decent parts on the bike id like to keep or alternativly get some cash for.
what do you guys think i should do?

If you have the time to fix it yourself then i would do that, of course it will be a learning curve for you and were here if you need any technical advice. A new gasket is in the region of 20 quid and a base gasket about the same i think. As far as i know thats the only parts you need and a few days dedicated for doing it.
Other option is another engine which will be far simpler for you to do than a head gasket job, but your looking at least a couple of hundred quid for a running motor, probably twice for a decent low mileage one.
Otherwise i guess sell the lot as is and see what you get.

its a zxr400 and im in nottingham.
do you not think it is worth stripping it down then? i was just thinking i could keep some parts on it thats all, its got a full micron system, nice set of gold wheels with very good tyres, front forks have had a re-build not that long ago too.....

buy the engine off me for £50 you never know it could be a good one.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

thats a bloody good deal...I would buy baz's engine and rebuild it out of the bike then you can just switch it when done. Also allows you to learn. plus then you can rebuild the other one at a later date into a full hot motor and have a stocker to swap in and out should you have problems...
on the other hand you can change the head in the bike fairly easily and provided you don't want to reshim its a pissy easy job. because shimming is the real pain in the ass. and unless you have someone to swap shims with they add up to a lot.....you just need to loan a torque wrench from someone..every thing else is straight forward......

doh....oh well ...rebuild the existing one. Definately don't sell the bike just because of it.

right well i think im gonna look for a new engine for it so if anyone knows of one let me know please.

im after some form of front brake upgrade, iv heard that gsxr6 brakes are good for them, is this true and what other options is there or what would i need to fit those brakes??
my bike has got fibre glasss track modded fairings on at the miniute and a single seat set up, id like to get some standard fairings, would i get the vents (that go between the fairings and the frame) with them or would i have to source those seperatley? also would else do i need to get it siutable for a pilion too other then the seat and foot pegs?

i've got some panels here for both, some good, some not so good, also pillion pegs and pillion seats..

its an L model, iv decided (unless i get some really good condition white,blue and green ones) im gonna get them sprayed anyway so aslong as theres no big cracks and damage they should be suitable

ZX6 2005 etc front forks with radial calipers fit well. Im just putting some in now....cheers

Just replace the head gasket and make sure you seal the base gasket properly. It was the first job i did on my zxr, took best part of 2 days but its worth it to save on labour costs! Plus it is a great learning experience and it helps you learn your bike inside out.
