There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

depends what you mean by "kit ignition" really .. and H or L ?

im guessing its an F3 spec SP unit.

i should have some maps in a couple of weeks once my programmable units have arrived and been setup, but i thought the SP ignitions were non-programmable without delving inside them ?

TK400 knows more than I though.

yeh they are the ignitech ones,

I've got 5 turning up this week, all spoken for though, but will be placing another order shortly.

you can always order direct from them, but im getting a slightly reduced price due to bulk purchases.

email ignitech, im assuming they will be able to send you a base settings map to use your tcip4 on a zxr, then its just a case of getting the wiring right.

I'll be posting my experience with these boxes as well as maps once they are fitted and setup.

pm me with your email address and i'll send my map over.

loosely based on the f3 kit advance curve, my bike runs with it, but has NOT been dynoed.. or even ridden.

im not entirely sure the base advance is correct.. or that the pickup/coil settings are 100%

I will get those maps completed for you soon zimm. has the unit you have got 4 coil channels or only 2. Also have you programmed the dwell in at all. My guess is 5ms on the dwell static throughout the rev range as a start. but I can provide a beter idea of a dwell map soon. has it got any auxilary outputs at all that are 3d mapped. cheers

they are 2 channel units, 4 channel are available, but i dont have one (yet)

dwell being the duration of the signal to the coil ? if so, i have two settings to choose from, 3 or 6ms, using 3.. more reading required to see what the coils actually need.

it can utilise a TPS to provide 100 points on the ignition map, also can control an exhaust valve (YPVS/EXUP)..

also, outputs for a shift light.. n stuff .. grab the software from ignitech and have a look, will run with no unit to talk to.. probably the easiest way to see whats available.

im thinking a 4 channel unit would be ace with those stick coil badgers :)

I like the sound of the 4 channel...what could you get one of those for in Aussie dollars...As for the dwell...go with 3ms as the worst that can then happen is a non saturated coil which will lower the spark intensity but probably not effect the maximum ionization voltage. hence the coil will still ignite fuel at higher combustion pressures. where as if you go with six you run the risk of burning out the coils and overloading your CDI. does the CDI have a maximum voltage clamp and current control. As some do and this changes the calculation for dwell time ( yes dwell is the length of time for which the coil is charging). in any case I don't think it will actually be able to sustain a 6ms dwell at high revs as the window is to small.

16,000rpm = 267 r/sec
period = 3.75ms

therefore if you include the discharge time and give the coil a slight rest you only have 2.5ms or so available. So i wonder what it does when set at 6ms at high revs. This is why waste spark systems SUCK....lol.

anyway ill get some data up soon. sounds good zimm, maybe I could do some map develoment work for you in exchange for a 4 channell!!!!! :excited :excited :excited :smt002 :smt002 ...lol.

cheers mate

kind regards TK400

the longer dwell time is there because the units are quite popular with the classics crowd, british bikes and ducati's and stuff ... twins that rev to 7000.

your explanation is similar to the badly translated czech that came with them .. so its all starting to make sense this end... lol

yeh, startng to understand why wasted spark systems suck ..

4 channel all singing all dancing unit would be around 370 AUD, or about 250 AUD for a 4 channel version of the units already purchased. (plus shipping)

if the unit has a heatsink on it of sorts...you could always monitor the temp of that and the temp of the coils over 10 laps and see where your at...just use a thermocouple hooked up to a multimeter..they are cheap and most multimeters now have a k type thermocouple input..

sounds good anyway zimm, cant wait to test those CDI's and compile all the data. I may put it all on a website and get master to put a link to it as there is a fair bit of data so far. but I will get waht I can through to you soon. Just been busy gettin my bike back together for the summer. Its good riding weather over hear and I want in on it.....the mountains await for the Howl of the FCR's......LOL....

cheers
