wheres the search bar thing gone?

errrm.....
im trying to find out of ebc do a HH sintered set of front pads for the L9...and thought id check FAQ but cant find the a mentioned search bar.
im an idiot, no fool, im sure,...but i honestky cannot for the life of me find, nor see it.

Think Baz mentioned something about it on the "website announcements" section. Maybe it had something to do with the database crash so he's disabled it for the time being.

Yeah its been disabled, according to the hosts there were too many searches and that was why they closed the site down.
So for the moment Baz has had to switch it off till further notice.

glad somebody reads the announcements.
unfortuntely until i get some answers why the database got disabled i have to disable the search feature, it was mentioned that the bots are causing it as they search the site for their search engines but bots aren't allowed to search so it can't be that.

can you not put an image code on the search? should stop spam bots from searching!

spam bots aren't allowed to use the search feature anyway.this problem was happening every couple of weeks so i thought i'd give it a couple of weeks then reinstate one or the other and see how it goes.

couldnt you search before you became a member though? the bots can hide themself so they look like normal internet users

you know why it is?
its beacuse "posts since last visit" is a search and i bet most people use that rather than trawl through each forum in turn. i know i do and its a pain in the butt not having it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm very intrigued why we have soo many guests lately, i feel this may be something to do with it, do i disable guests viewing the forum?

if it gets the search bar back and working id say yes.
at the moment its making life hard for us paying and non paying members by not letting us search helpful topics while guests have a quick browse and bugger off again.
all imo.

As an alternative, set it up so they can see the full list of forums (ie the index), but only view the 'Free for all' forum. Do you think that would be enough of a teaser to get people to sign up but reduce the load on the database?
