I learnt that...

1) My fuel tap doesn't turn off. Fuel still comes out regardless of where you put the tap.

2) The ZXR400 airbox is carefully designed to maximise the chance of dropping screws into the engine while trying to take it off.

3) If you try to use a normal spark plug socket to take the plugs out, it will get stuck in the hole and take ages to get back out. So use the one that came in the bike toolkit. :smt013

4) If you change the spark plugs, it will actually start.

5) It is incredibly easy to take the back half of the subframe off.

6) Contrary to my worst fears, it actually took about ten seconds to separate the defunct alarm from the wiring loom - and the bike still works afterwards.

7) However, the alarm was the only thing holding the tool tray in. So it's now on a shelf in the garage.

70 miles through the peak district is a good way of wasting an afternoon.

9) The valve clearances need doing again.

Been there, done that, go the T-shirt and the mug. That made me laugh. The two screws that attach to the carbs are the worst. Thats where a magnet comes in handy

I dab the socket end in grease before i remove those bolts to get the airbox off, same for putting them on too!

I'm totally with you on the first three!

Actually, after my other VFR had been stood for over a year, we tried to get a plug out to check it when it wasn't quite turning over - resulting in my Step Dad's expensive and much needed plug spanner sticking solid in the block.

Of course, when I then tried 'one more time' to start the bike, it fired up instantly!
