all very well installing a big engine in a small bike, and dont get me wrong it looks well tasty. cagiva 125 weight and zxr400 power, however y did they not fit a 2nd front caliper and disc? wtf

would u ridce your bigger bike with a single front brake? i know i wouldnt

your thoughts?

an XT600 only punts out about 50hp .. the bike is oooh, 40-50kg lighter than a zxr400, and the "puny single disc" is a brembo goldline .. i'd say its more than up to the job. basic specs (weight/power/brake config) are pretty much the same as my old TZR250-1KT, and that was ace at rolling stoppies

i can see what you mean, but really it doesnt need it .. its got half the brakes off a ducati 916, and weighs less than an RGV250.. 135kg is nothing.

i think i also have a complex with calipers since buying my zx7r with 6pots. all 4pots just look a bit inadequate to me now, but my bike does weigh a little more than the titanic!

considering motogp bikes use MonoBlock calipers that are 2pot i think they can handel it..

been loads of mito engine swops now, mostly the 350 YPVS engine

also the mito CB500 turbo...(sorry about small pic cant find any better ones)

mito,cb500 engine,turbo from a 2.5 diesel citreon(i think),intercooler from a lancia,entire exhaust system from 0.5mm thick incernel(sp !)(f1 car exhaust material ),916/748 front end,still using mito wheel and disc,all done himself from a mito frame he brought in a scrapyard....upto 130 bhp depending on boost.......... impressive

I have to say the 2 pots on my VFR are a piece of pish!

Very easy to work on and up to the job!

I'd agree I'd want 2 disks really... but then my mate's KTM only has 1 and that seems fine!

2 disks is mainly for show, if you have a high quility caliper and disk you'll get more braking power than 2 average disks, its just a way of keeping costs down, two cheap calipers and disks is cheaper than 1 expensive one

Two disks also balance the braking effort on the forks, with one disk your bike could potentially pull to one side as you brake.

lol, no it cant rob .. think about it !

it can pop fork seals on the side with the brake more frequently due to the loadings though

Im pretty certain it can twist the forks due to that load.

By design, telescopic forks have a tendency to dive, twist or bend under braking forces. When suspension demands are placed on forks in addition to braking, the limits of traditional forks are obvious. Telescopic forks cannot separate steering and braking forces.

That isnt specifically aimed at single caliper brakes tho....

But i cant believe that having just one caliper will have no effect on the twisiting of the forks.

a single caliper setup will indeed pass more load through the fork-leg its attached to .. but it wont cause the bike to pull to one side under braking.

cant see it making any diffrence unless your as strong as a 1 years old.

Even GP bikes still use 1 disk ie the Honda RS125



and that would easly out brake pritty much everything you can think of..
