hi guys i have taken my restrictors off and the bike is fast ow, but i still want more.
I am getting it booked in for a big bore in the next couple of months, but wanted to know what else to do. ie changin the air filter system, changing the gearing, getting new carbs will these things make a big difference after the big bore?

and where can i buy some new flatside carbs or slotted cams??

the general consensus seems to be that the air filter doesn't make any difference.

downgearing is fantastic as i've said elsewhere. but it's probably worth waiting till after the big bore to see if you still reckon you need to.

carbs, don't know.

how much money have you got?

Flatsides are £250 at least same for slotted SP cams. And are like rocking horse poo

Best and cheapest thing you can do to make you ZXR faster is loose weight and put some really good suspension on it. And decent tyres.

A well set up one with K&N air filter and rejetted carbs and a good exhaust will make make a difference. But maybe not enough to notice except on a dyno

IMHO Flatsides are curse to set up.

Lowering the gearing won't make it faster it'll just seem like it with better acceleration but a drop in top speed.

Truth be told it would be cheaper to buy a 600.

unless you are in the habit of riding around above 130mph, it will be faster.

cheers guys

well at the moment it tops out at about 135mph and i tend to stick around that. i think i will give the gearing a go.

I dont really want to get the 600 though well not yet at least, i mean i have test ridden a zxr636 and a gsxr600 but they were so much different to my 400 they werent as light and nimble for one.

Is there any point in getting the flatsides and or slotted cams? what difference will they make?

I already have a full scorpion exhaust system and that made a big difference to speed and of the gp sound it makes is awesome, after i get the big bore done i should have about £500 to spend.

then why are you riding a 400 that'll barely get there? :smt003

Depends how much cash you've got to chuck around?

The rebore costs a fair old bit, so I'd wait until after that to make any other decisions on bits to buy.

You might not want to do anything else! :smt002

My 444 kit made a HUGE difference! It gave it all the same engine characteristics and useabilty of a ZXR750! Obviously less, power, but it felt exactly the same - short-shifting happily at around 6,000rpm and it was still as fast at those revs as it was flat out before the rebore!

Awesome to do if you can afford to do it. I think it made the ZXR the ultimate bike for the roads - with just the right ammount of power adn handling to let you really take the bike to it's limits and that of the roads!

And it kept up with 600's on the straight bits too!

What gearing are you running ?

And what difference has it made to your top end?

14/47

Runs out of revs at an indicated 130mph - but it gets there quickly and I don't have any great desire to ride any faster.

8000 rpm in top at 70mph rather than 7000. Good for roll on overtakes, presumably bad for motorway economy, but I haven't measured it.
