Now I'm starting to get a camchain/ top end noise. Bloody bike is nout but trouble. Been thinkingly lately of selling it and going for a 98 or something.

Also just been quoted £437 tpft on a GSXr600 srad (dream bike) so that ones mulling about in my head, especially when the 400 insurance is only £80 cheaper.

Never been happy with this bike since I got it. When I got my second rs125 I would look at it and feel pleased. I look at this thing and I'm like 'My god Andrew what where you thinking - its purple/pink and not in that gooder condition'

sad to hear that, some people do seem to end up with some bad ones. There was one user, yamswheelier1, always always had problems with it, then he crashed it and finally sold it to get an R6.

Of course its previous history has a big effect on how it runs later on in its life, as well how its being treated at the present time. But once you get things ironed out on these they really are worth keeping and are absolute gems.

If its a top end noise its probably just the valve clearances, and obviously the tensioner if its the cam chain.

its history seemed ok. book was stamped right upto 20000 miles, and that was in year 2000. When I got it in feb the milage was on 25000 odd so it has either done the clock in that time (surely not) or not been serviced properly.

Main things that bug me is the thing is a bitch to start from cold and the hot start ought to be on the button - as opposed to 5 seconds of winding, I have never come across a poorer choke, the open can I suppose may be contributing and the carbs probably need balancing. I know they must be out because when I was buying the new engine it was in a running bike when I turned up, I spent a while taking in how well it started from cold and hot (obviosly didn't get many chanches to see a cold start), it started from hot much nicer in his bike than it does in mine.

I was quite happy with at first, and wouldn't say it was riddled with problems. But this is wearing me down. The new engine was a gem for a month noise wise. The clutch is silent and the gearbox works.

If I get picky though, I hate the rear suspension - far too soft.
and it needs about £400 of exhaust before I can even show it to an MOT station.

I'm just stuck on what to do. On the one hand why buy an £1800 zxr400 to keep for a year, on the other why spend best part of £800 on this one when that takes the total cost upto £2000 (inc. engine).

then I think hmmm gixxer, nice bike, would find time to polish that every weekend like I did with the aprilia. I will HAVE to ride that restricted so wont be worried every time I pass the police.

as robB says mate stick with it and iron out the problems, it'll be worth it in the end and 2 grand aint much to spend on a nice running bike is it?

its £200 or so more than I could spend on a newer one, and about £500 more than I could spend on a 98 SRAD.
