why did they bother?

I've junked my second one, just got in the way that thang.

I've just replaced my second one (de-accelerator) It was rusty inside and had snapped. Probably been like that for ages so didn't make a difference.

Must say though if anything went wrong with the return spring on the carb end and you couldn't shut off....ouch.

I replaced mine just for the peice of mind. The bloke that does my bike for me said they always got rid of them when they raced, but on the road could be helpful.

My undestanding is that they are to stop the throttle getting stuck wide open. Dont you need it for racing too?

The spring on the throttle at the carb end is strong enough to stop the throttle, but if that broke I suppose it would cause a wide bum hole moment. I suppose they were willing to take the risk since they had no oncoming traffic and a nice run off area.

I can't see what difference it would have made. It doesn't weigh much and won't give any more power. Maybe it was easier to setup or something?

Slow Racing may be able to shed some light?

ah right, hope the spring doesn't go, if it does i'll just have to cut it out

spring wouldn't even have to snap. anything could corrode a bit and stick, either in the mechanism or the cable, just enough to stop the spring pulling back in.

normaly to my understanding they remove it in raceing as quick action throtals always come with a single line, my crosser dosent have a de aclerator and that can get jamed open not to fused when off road but when it happens on road your just glad you can blame that stain on being muddy!
