after seting up my carbs today my mate said thay look like flatslides. the sides are flat and i can only make out "keihin" engraved on the side did they fit flatslides to the zx400?

to some yes, best bet is a picture, will tell you in seconds if they are or not

or do they look like this, with a black plastic round bit facing towards the front of the bike, if so, probably not flatslides

ah ok thanks the slides are round so thats a no then. im not used to working on carbs or bikes for that mater im used to tinkering with cars but im learning as i go

i might be wrong here, but i thought an easy way to test for flatslides was to fire the bike up and crank the throttle right round, if you have flatslides the bike will stall as you have flooded the engine, if its normal vacuum carbs the bike will rev fine...but again i dont have any flatslides, its just something that i have read i think...?

Unless you bike is well tuned then it won't stall.

Can anyone recommend someone who can work on flatslide carbs?

Ive used a couple of people in the past. Including Rhen Cullen but I wasn't happy with the final result. It seems to be a black art when it comes to flatslides.
