Please, help needed with CDI and ignition coils.M- and L-CDI

Ok, so i think ive got ignition problems as i think my bike is misfiring.
Removed the IC ignitor (its an M-box, not a blue L like stock), ive tested it like in the manual by using a multimeter. If i put the -ve lead on A (brown cable usually) all values are out when i touch the +ve lead on positions B to I. I get a reading, but its about 10x higher than in the manual, i.e. -ve on A +ve on B should give 2.5-9.8 Ohms...i get 78.2 Ohms.
Also if i put -ve on say C and +ve on E or F i get a value of infinity...which is definitely wrong, manual shows that there should be a resistance of 3.5 - 14 Ohms. I get this value of infinity for every position tested where the +ve wire is on E or F...is not right.
The A position on the IC ignitor connects to the brown wire, this wire goes to the engine stop switch, which then turns into the red wire to the coils.
The E and F positions are the green and black wires, both of these go only from the IC ignitor to the coils...so my only IC ignitor problems are on cables that feed into the coil system...now is this a problem of MY ignitor, or is this because i have an M-box.
Please can someone with a blue M-stamped IC ignitor, remove it from your bike, put the -ve lead of a multimeter on position C (yellow wire) and test the resistance with +ve lead on position E (green wire)...if someone else can do this for a blue L-stamped IC ignitor it would really help me out, will tell me in seconds if mine is FUBAR or if its a difference between different IC ignitor boxes.

John,
I get exactly the same infinity readings as you and my bike runs fine. Mine is a blue M-stamped CDI. The manual says that you must use Kawasaki's own hand tester 57001-983 for the test as any other may show different readings. I think this is what is happening, yer bog standard multimeter is not the right tool. The only way to get round this will be to do a swap for a functioning unit. If that doesn't cure it just re-Ebay the unneeded item.

cheers, come payday ill look into getting another M CDI...just wanted to see if mine was FUBAR or not.
coils windings came back ok, i was testing them wrong-ish before, both primary windings are 3.8 Ohm, so a tiny bit high, secondary windings were 14.4KOhm which is within spec. will still stick new HT leads on, but good to see that the coil's not immediatly ready for the bin.
thanks!

Hi - I have two CDI units - Models - 131800-5240 A and 131800-5120 M. I am hoping someone has one of these two units installed and can provide me with a photo or details of the wiring into the two plugs. I do believe the wiring is different for both. Any help would be appreciated.
Regards

131800-5240 A - this is a restricted H model CDI (wiring diagram in the H manual on this site)
131800-5120 M - this is an un-restricted L-model CDI (wiring diagram in the L supplement on this site)

Could you wire an H model loom to the L model points on the CDI?

the electrical diagram is very hard to decipher in the H model, and im gonna assume you have a H-loom, but...
H model black/white + yellow is from the pickup coil, L model = black/white + yellow
H model black + grey are to the coils, L model = black + green
H model grey/black goes to the fusebox, L model = green/black
black/yellow serves the same function on both bikes = -ve return
you need to connect the brown wire from the L cdi to the yellow wire between ignition key/kill switch
you need to connect the grey wire from the L cdi, through an 'in series' 100 ohm (i use a 5W) resistor to the same yellow wire from the ignition/kill switch...and im pretty sure that it...but someone must have done it before, and im a complete novice with electrics.
but basically the l model CDI needs a switched live going into the brown wire, it needs a switched live (with 100ohm resistor to drop the voltage to 9V) going to the grey wire, pickup coil goes to black/white + yellow, coils are black + green wires, black/yellow is the ground return, and green/black goes to the starter lockout switches in the junction box.
but im not going to guarantee it will work.

We think the wires that go to the pins have been fiddled with so we are looking for which wires go to which pins
thanks for the speedy reply by the way

If anyone has a picture of an H loom going into their CDI then that would be perfect
thanks

If you can wait until Saturday I can show you an 'A' H model CDI fitted to the bike
