lightening the ZXR?

the most obvious one is for the rider to lose weight - yes i've lost 6 stone .. but the bike is still heavy as f***! lol

is there any way to lighten the bike without spending a load of cash?

the only 2 i can think of at the top of my mind are:

1. cut the rear subframe down - i dont take pillions
and 2. drilling a few holes in the magneto - this puts less stress on the crank when spinning up... no? i did this to my RS125 and also drilled a few extra holes in the magneto casing - didn't make that much of a difference if any at all to be fair...

any one else got any idea how to make the bike lighter? 165kg for a 400 isn't exactly heavy to a lot of bikes out there ... but its not the lightest either!

test ride a zx7r then jump back on the 400, it'll feel loads lighter!

lol it's always the easy option really isn't it? lol

i'm keeping the ZXR for the next 4 years.. or up to anyways, i'll be at uni for the next 4 years so i might aswell get my money's worth and go all out with it, will be cheaper for me to keep the 400 in many ways rather than upgrade to a bigger bike!

you can seve a few kg's with a lightweight battery, something to consider if your bike is old/has a slightly knackered battery.
if you are gonna chop the rear subframe, you could also look at getting a cheap front bracket constructed as well.
give it a clean, that will remove a few g...

what you doing at uni? im a doctor of molecular biology.

i have seen these light weight batteries but as im using the bike daily and nightly ... it just wouldnt supply the juice i need - surely? also clean her weekly but will definitely look into making a lighter front subframe!

as far as i know the lightweight batteries (the lithium ones) are fine for day to day use, as long as your bike fires up fine it will be ok on a lithium battery.

the problem is that they dont hold a lot of charge for repeated chargings, so if you find that you need to crank the engine over 4 or 5 times to get it to fire you might start to run into the odd problem...
