There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

SQUISH???

Post by zxdillan »

HI ALL
need some help setting up an engine.
what is the optimum valve to piston clearance, and how do you set this up?
just got some slotted sprockets and need to dial the cams in, anyone any ideas!
head skimmed 0.5mm
piston to head clearance(squish) 0.7mm
base gasket removed
also i have noted some of you are machining standard pistons, by how much and where(crown, skirt, etc). is this to weight match them or is it for clearance.
ALL help would be most appreciated
MANY THANKS

Squish 0.6 to 0.7, don't forget to allow for big end oil float of about 0.05
Inlet clearance manual says 0.6 but try & go for about 0.75
Exhaust is 1.1mm, if you rev to 16k allow a little more.
Weight match down to 0.1g if you can.
Also pays to end match the rods

I dont know the numbers for my engine................ RMKD did all the compliacted nonsense
................but I use two spark plug washers per plug to keep the spark plugs away from the pistons
