if thats in top gear it could well be a slipping clutch.

To avoid repetition, here's what I already told Skullie in the other post viewtopic.php?f=164&t=1535&start=15 It's an old thread resurrected, you want to be looking at the end of Page 2.

That's my two-pennorth to date.

hi guys

right phil it was it top gear ,when i say it was red lining i mean deep within the red zone !!! as in at the stop point

i was thinking maybe it might be due to getting restrictors put it to it ????
could it be anything to do with the carb's ??
have checked both sprockets and they are the sizes Tirpitz said they should be

Are we talking about the engine reving its head off and popping off thebl limiter, or the engine reving normaly and the rev counter saying something else?

Right, so it's looking more like either a faulty rev counter or pickup. Have you done my other checks as described in the previous thread? This will establish whether it's the pickup or the rev counter.

You can forget the carbs, or the restrictors fitted to them, they've got no bearing on the symptoms you describe.

does it sound like its doing 16k revs? being a bit mechanically careless (i like thrashing things :smt003 ) just run up the road and see when it hit's the limiter eg how long after the rev counter said enough! least you will know then the rev counter is buggered and either replace or ignore it.
ps disclaimer i once blew up six 2.8inj engines in one year and broke an unbreakable straight 6 bmw engine oh and fecked my blade engine first time out at cadwell!!!

Have you put the gearbox back in the wrong way round? :pmsl

So what happens leading up to that? Is it revving normally in the first 5 gears?

Dude seems to have gone a bit quiet. We can't really help him further without some answers to the questions I posed :smt017

sorry guys not been on for a while as been busy trying to fault find on the bike

when its redlining it sounds as if there is more power to come from the engine ??
yes i mean revving its head off
it revs very quickly thru all the gears
rofl no i didnt put the gear box in the wrong way !!!! i not touched it YET !!

Tirpitz where do i find this pick up your on about ??

bike does have a problem with the revs when you first start it up it starts ok at 1'3k revs then it starts revving its balls off any ideas ??

Hmmm.. Slipping Clutch does sound a good option at the moment.

Skullie.. Do a little video of the bike stationary & rev it up with the vid on the rev counter. Listening to the noise of it revving up would be a massive help to us all.

Admin... Can video be posted directly or has it got to be via a link ?

Phil
