I finally got my L1 back together after having the head skimmed (to it's limit), snapping a head bolt and removing it, replacing the head gasket, oil and coolant change (new oil filter) and new plugs which is fantastic!
BUT.....
The engine starts and runs a little lumpy (but some carb balancing should sort that out) and when I give it some revs I can hear a tapping sounds get louder as the revs go up. Is this the valves bouncing off the pistons?
The head has been skimmed right to the limit - actually clipped a valve.
Just wondered if this is a major problem or could be sorted with some timing alteration...?
Thanks

Re: Valves Bouncing...?
It depends if the sound your hearing is one or multiple valves. If it's one, check the clearance of the valves, it could be that simple. If it's several, check the timing is correct.
I woud'nt run the engine 'till it's been sorted though as you can easily bend a valve or break the little end etc.
As it's been skimmed to within an inch of it's life it could be the clearences are all out now, so I'd check that first.
Steve.
