I know that the fair air hoses are only to supply cool air to airbox area, but is there any reason why new smooth hoses couldn't be fed through to feed air directly into a modded air box to create a ram air system. Having lowered the front fairing on a different and semi-faired bike ('97 GPZ500) by about and inch (inorder to fit clip ons to replace high bars) the effect on cooling was drastic, due to a huge drop in air reaching the rad. Hence it strike be that having a rad top intake for a conventional ramair box would not be ideal.

Whilst i'm on the topic, what carb mods would be recommended to make best use of the additional air mass flow from a ram air box? Would a simple jet kit be sufficient, or totally different jet and needle types needed?

I think using the standard air hoses for ram air is quite inefficient, hence why you see racebikes with air scoops at the front which then duct through a cut out in the rad into the airbox.
