Hello,
I have a question regarding the information on the racing kit manual for the H model Kawasaki ZXR400. I have been modifying my H model engine to get it up to the same specification as listed in the racing kit manual.
However there are a few things I am having trouble with such as finding some of the parts listed, mainly the needles for the carbs. I have been building the bike to F3 specification and the main jet is listed as #165 to #175 which seems very large considering the main jets in the standard carbs are #102's. I am having trouble identifying which type of main jets these are as I can't find the CVK carbs listed anywhere. Have they been replaced by something else and where to get them from? Can someone tell me what "type" of main jet is in the CVK and if #165 is too large to fit?
To go with these main jets I also need the the needles, I have called up Cardley Kawasaki and they told me that the needles were no longer stocked but couldn't tell me if they had been replaced. Are the needles similar to another type that is widley available that be purchased and does anyone know where from? The needles are listed as N70A but I can not find them.
Any information about this would be great, thanks!

Re: Kawasaki H Model Racing Kit Carb Question
depends mostly on what air box you are using ..
the racekit you are following utilises intake trumpets and an air tray.. hence the HUGE jets .. (also the main air jet is significantly bigger in F3 spec)
if using a ramair box (kit copy/BB plastics/dynopro/RMKD etc .. follow the advice of the manufacturer, they ought to know what will work with their products.
which (as has been covered before in more detail) is generally IRO #110 to #120 main jets with the air corrector blocked and whatever needles you have to hand that work best. Or leave the correctors open, and fit bigger jets.
I have some '89 J1 F3 bits here, cdi/rotor/loom/air tray/trumpets etc for a forgotten era build
there is a reason the later bikes switched to a sealed ram-airbox and flatslides

Re: Kawasaki H Model Racing Kit Carb Question
No air box I have followed the racing kit by using the air tray and intake trumpets already just need to get hold of the needles and main jets.
Building a sealed ram air box would be no problem but buying flatslides seems quite expensive so I'm not trying to buy all new parts but rather just the jets and needles (which I'd probably need to change if I brought flatslides anyway
).
Those are some interesting parts there I'm very interesting in getting my hands on a kit CDI, do you know where I can get parts such as these or point me in the right direction of someone selling them?
Thanks!
Still looking for information regarding the needle jets and where to get them as well as the main jet type and where to get them too.

or

for jets
try ringing allensperformance if what you are after isnt listed on their site.. they are meant to know their stuff
if they cant help then needles will be a case of suck it and see im afraid.. the H1 needles (N36Y) are shorter than the H2 needle (N77C), most L needles are longer again... but yeh .. for a different setup. Emulsion tube cross drilling varies across the models as well.
I'd try the H2 needles if you can get some, and shim them if needed.. once mine is put together i'll be doing exactly that, and maybe trying some dynojet needles if it warrants it.
30 or 50mm trumpet's ? I've only got the 50mm ones.. they're massive ! almost touch the underside of the tank !
no idea where to get bits from .. I just got lucky after keeping an eye out for literally years and picked up all the F3 stuff unused and still in its kawasaki packaging from a very helpful chap in Australia who's a member on here.
the airbox is more important than having flatslides
a programmable ignition is better than anything from 1989 whatever the part number/history
the kit rotor is identical to the stock one, but 6 (
) degree's advanced and with "kit" engraved on it.

The smaller size 30mm as mine definatly don't touch the tank!
Thanks for the help do you know what style the main jets are for the CVK carbs? Just want to make sure I don't order the wrong set!
Which club will you be running your H model in, I'll be at the New Era round at Pembrey next week. If you're riding I'd be interested in picking your brains about kit parts for the 400.

Re: Kawasaki H Model Racing Kit Carb Question
I might be there, but i wont be riding
not enough time/money
due to being in the middle of relocating my entire workshop to new (mucho cheaper!
) premises
shame.. if i dont get out this year i'll have to do the wanky acu course again
I normally get jets from, http://motorcycleproducts.co.uk/catalog ... =1&sort=2a
but seriously ring allens, they may be able to help with needles/advice, and will certainly know what type of jets to send out for zxr400 CVK carbs.. their website can be a 'mare unless you already know exactly what you want.
interested to see what kind of power you get out of it @ F3 spec
what pistons/cams did you use ?
having had a look at the f3 manual it would appear that the N70A (F3) needles are adjustable, whilst the N78B (SP) needles are not .. so .. yeh, just start with the longest ones you have, shim from there and see how the fuelling looks on the dyno.
