Oil choices...

There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

Oil choices...

Post by Billy Wizz »

Its the old chestnut, of "is it worth the extra cost" when choosing oil. Ive used standard Semi Rock oil before with great results but Ive got a tuned zxr now with RAM air etc so should I use the same (never had any probs so..) step up to the slightly more expensive Rock oil guardian, or the more expensive fully synth. This is for race use by the way?

Rock oil every time for me..We use the Synthesis 4 racing and run our engines to 16100rpm..No engine problems whatsoever last season. We used the Guardian prior to raising the rev limit with great success, but was advised by the technical department to up it to the higher spec fully synthetic with the extra rpm we were using. Not a problem with clutch slip as some other Brands cause and on inspecting the engine ready for 2010 found no wear at all...just as a matter of course i fitted a new cam chain and on setting the valve clearances on the rebuild found only 3 that needed slight adjustment. What more can i say no dnf's...only off the top step of the podium twice (due to grid allocation) two outrite f400 lap records, three club lap records. And a £75 parts bill for the rebuild...i only change it every 3rd meeting...Cheap racing i call that...now that suggests to me that good oil is worth the money....and my money goes with Rock oil ...

Mmmmm, thats what I was thinking, I guess when oil is the lifeblood of an engine then its the one thing that deserves to be the best to save a big repair bill later!!. Cheers for the advice

ill agree with roger on the rock oil synthesis 4, i used it all last season in my zxr, had the enginge rebuilt over the winter, and when it was taken apart it looked brand new, and apart from having new valves due to being worn, there was nothing else wrong with it!!! even the shells looked brand new still, still had them changed tho. lol

If you contact Gordon Murray on 07778 214120 and tell him that Colin Murray passed on the details then I am sure you will get a good deal.
Rock Oil have sponsored me for the last couple of years and what Gordon does not know about oil is not worth knowing!!

Synthesis 4 racing is OK for fast street ride and track days?

I use Motul 5100 10-40 for 15.000Khm every 800kmh change.

Never see problems.

But I want to use a different oil brand.
Racing for the fearless....!!!!
