BDK race generator

Anyone fitted one? I'm working on building up a "superbike" 400 and was thinking about getting the generator. I've seen impressive results on 600's by changing to a race generator. Thoughts?

Unless you have to have a generater (class rules) then maybe yes a race one would be good but for me the easy solution is to sling it in the bin.........................

No, I'm not required to have it, but I prefer to be able to keep the battery charged without having to plug it in every time I come off track. It also allows me to run an endurance race without worrying about the battery dying during the race.

Yeah, I run one, it generates enough to run the bike but not enough to recharge the battery, I run a 7ah battery with the starter motor it is enough for me to start the bike about a dozen times in the day. I do put it on the charger at lunchtimes to be sure. I you use one of the 600cc winding they use you may generate a little more charge. You can definitaly feel the difference.

I've seen a standard ZXR 400 battery last 226 miles and a six lap race lasting over 2 hours running time on the TT course................
My own ZXR 400 will start on the starter button twice and last a 150 mile race and still have enough juice left to restart it..............running with NO genny
A days racing at a short circuit should be no problem.
For my own piece of mind I only use the starter for the first cold start after that it just bumps or I use my rollers at a short circuit
What sort of endurance racing do you mean ? like a 24 hour race ?

Well that's good to hear, maybe I'll give it a try for the sprints, it's certainly cheaper than a race genny. The endurance races that I might do this year are 4 and 6 hour races. I've got two bikes so I can set up one for sprints and the other for endurance if needed.

lots, never really weighed the difference, but say 2kg then I use a lithium ferrite battery with it that saves another couple of kilo's

2kg is a lot rotate mass, i think total loss is more....

Ok, photo's below, the bdk genny shown is a 600 yamaha one but you get the idea, shoulf be approx 1.5kg rotating mass eliminated. Plus some from the windings.

Amazing....weight remove, 1.5 kg, i think this is a No1 modification to rename the street bike to race bike.
I cant imagine the difference in throttle response and the rev.
In braking u feel different, i mean is more 2 stroke the feeling?
Thanks,
Andreas

Not so much a two stroke feeling, but more in the throttle response, especially when blipping the throttle down the gears. Throttle response is much improved.
