2 hours labour sounds more reasonable to me... 1 hr to swap the parts and another hour for stripping the fairing...

When my alternator fried itself I paid about £80 to have it refurbished and saved a lot, so their price seems ok.

Chances are they will have binned the parts (they're not going to keep crap lay around the garage!) so if you want the parts tell them ASAP! Probably a good move because maybe you can refurb the alternator and sell it on to get some cash back.

You should do it yourself before you give them the bike, then.

I think when you break down your at the mercy of whoever can help you... for example i broke down without cover and the AA tried to charge me £140 to join as i was stranded. Though f*** that and got it going eventually.

So they are charging a little more than they should me thinks!! Just take cash and haggle a bit / make them break it down, find out what they charge per hour and if they take the piss (i.e. an hour to strip fairing which takes 5 minutes if you dawdle) then kindly point out that it would not take that long. And i mean kindly, lol not bein sarcastic, he's not gonna help you if your bein rude to him..

Just picked bike up, got the old parts too so know they've been fitted, after looking at the invoice it doesnt look too unreasonable, so ed up rather then getting done over!

Still ouch! Im just happy it works though and I have a bike to ride again

oh yeah they are good at their job and dont charge u for work that aint been done.

i've been going there on and off for nearly ten yrs, always recommend them to ppl

See if you can make something out of the old parts and get some money back, you might be able to eat then

I think a test for the alternator is in the manual, so long as you have a multimeter to hand (10 quid from maplin) you can do it yourself. Same goes for the rectifier.

Thats a slow three hours work. Only panels you need to take off are the ones on the left hand side, maybe he had trouble with it? But as long as your pleased that its working then all is well

My bike has done exactly the same thing... is it hard to fix? i was going to buy second hand parts of ebay?
