Mooching about on YouTube I just found this where Charlie Benante (drummer from Anthrax and a fine guitarist in his own right) talks about Guitar Hero:

So, in essence, good because of it's ability to spread good songs to those who otherwise wouldn't take an interest, but bad because of the falseties involved in 'playing' said songs.

I got guitar hero for the ps2 in Christmas 2007 from my boyfriend. I used to play classical guitar at school, but never learned the tunes I wanted to learn.
For Xmas 2008, the sameguy got me a Spongebob Squarepants electric guitar setup (little amp and a strap), and it's awesome to actually have the will to learn to play. Just sucks that I don't have a lot of time to put into it. Mostly about 40 mins in the evening, but I'm getting there. Slow and Steady. I wont win any races, but I can play a whole host of Killers tunes
