It's very easy to put the cam cap on without lining up the oil feed onto the dowl see first pic...................that could crack or break the camcap exactly like in that first picture. And in that first picture the oil feed is not lined up.......................

I've alway believed tha many of the alledged valve breaking problems that some think afflict zxr400 is entirely due to them not being built properly.

The misfire would appear to have been a valve problem and NOT a spark plug problem..........................I've learnt something here................don't have Bartons build my engines

Same fella, tell them the what you've been told here and see what they're going to do about it. I've seen people do this on other zxr4's motors before.

i have had that cracking twice on two differant zxrs!! seems quite common. caused by tightening the cam caps without seating the oil line next to the cam chain on the dowl correctly. can be welded by a good welder..

I also had that crack on me. Own fault not lining up the caps properly. Was welded back together but didn't trust it so forked out the dosh for a new one.

Learnt a lesson though. Take your time rebuilding the bike today and spend all of tomorrow riding!!!

I did that myself in not taking care when tightening up the cam caps and cam chain cover bit. Unless all is located exactly how it should be then as you tighten down, it snaps exactly where yours has. My guess is the garage was probably a little ham fisted or the cam chain cover wasn't located properly when tightened.
Take it back to the garage mate!!
