From what I've seen on other sites you were right the first time. I think I've seen loads of stories about massive and very expensive brake troubles on the GS? And there are many jokes floating around about them rarely being out of the garage...

I paid a grand, didn't have too many options though at the time, the ones in good nick were 1500 and up and 3 hours away. I didn't do too bad I suppose. There's always something wrong with older bikes though. I don't know how the last guy passed MOT...

i sold mine for around £1200 and it had cosmetic damage but the engine etc was mint. went to a good home but i think 6 months later the head went. or was on its way out. so it could be worse.

I had the same with my ZXR400, started ploughing cash into it for this and that. so I bought a ZX6R.

Still have the ZXR in parts though. Everytime I look into fixing it up, I figure out a cost and buy another bike. Lol.

when it rains it pours!!! passed my MOT retest today but noticed this morning the downpipe is leaking! they are due to be replaced anyways i suppose. this would explain why the standard can seemed louder...

Congrats on the MoT - dont worry about the downpipe - stick some repair filler and "exhaust wrap" on it and get some miles in on the bike - weekend is supposed to be good so - enjoy.

I don't think an exhaust wrap would help in my case. I think it's where the four pipes come together, if it's one of the pipes an exhaust wrap would do. You've got a mint standard DP?? I was thinking 150 for a stainless Delkavec(sp?). Ah coulda bought a newer bike if I only had the patience to wait.

I can't say i get fed up of the zxr, it hasn't had to be off the road that long really. Though i did blow the solenoid fuse doing 90 in the fast lane (kills everything!!) and sat on the hard shoulder for 4 hours!! bloody rac lol. The only reason i've thought about another road bike is so the zxr doesn't have to bear the brunt of the weather, and because after a couple of hours on the motorway my butt is on fire!!!

When I had my ZXR and felt I wanted to shelter it from the worst of the british winters (after the first year I had it) I got a KMX200 to comute with, my god, how much fun was that!
And thus my habit of having 2 bikes running at a time was born.

A couple of years later, I did my test and got a car to join them. Still not sure WHY I did that though, I hardly use the car.



Must say: Yesterday evening, riding around the forest roads on my ninja, rain slashing down, Thunder, lightning, wet, cold (ish), nasty - But the Grin on my face when I got in. I felt so ALIVE!!!

At 1st not at all but now every other day.
Before I went into surgery I had to repair the rear brake... was only a disc replacement which went well enough...
I healed up and thought I could just jump back on and get on the road... WRONG... the bike hit the floor and the front fairing split by the mirror stay, the mirror snapped clean off and a side pannel cracked... not to bad got a new screen to and all that so we tried again... Ran out of fuel on the A11 and my wifes butt of a brother helped the bike meet gravity and dropped it in a layby... 1 brake master cylinder, new brake lever... the master cylinder ordered was nackered and nobody could find a repair kit I found one after looking on the micro but ended up buying another master cylinder. Bled brakes, rear was stiff so decided to bleed that to... nipple brakes off... couldnt be fixed easily now needs a new caliper cant find one.

Due for its MOT and Tax runs out in like 8 days... Ive now spent nearly half a year off the road, out of funds and out of luck...

Anybody got a sledge hammer?

I've always found that if my calipers need anything really major, the best tactic is to get some off Ebay, clean those up and get them ready to go, then do a straight swap. That way you're still on the road again in a couple of hours max, and you have the option of sorting out your old calipers and either swapping them back over or selling them to get your money back.

Also remember that a 'Twenty minute job' ALWAYS ends up taking -ing HOURS!!! :smt013

Aye Ive been looking on ebay but couldnt really find any H specific parts for the back end.
Im still not sure what parts from other bikes I can put on the back even from floating about the forums for the past few months.
I found an L caliper but Im not sure if its a direct fit or if I need to adjust anything.

Haha theres no way I can repair my caliper... it sounds better than it is and 2 of my mechanic mates have looked at it and laughed...

I really want to rebuild and upgrade everything on the bike... every nut and bolt.
Finding parts from other bikes is getting tricky though... and even the topic here about it isnt very specific on model of ZXR parts fit and what year of bike the parts come from... ideally direct swaps than mods... but still... anything is good
