If you want the best chain possible, and don't have to carry it around with you, then you should get an Almax chain (I think that's the one you mean Superman?).

The reason these are the best is simply because the links themselves are too thick to get in the jaws of even the heaviest duty bolt croppers! Every other chain will get cropped in under 10 seconds whatever fancy spiel they give you, and this can all be seen on youtube. A bloke known as Zanx has loads of vids up.

As Lewisdale says, though - if they want it they'll get hold of a plasma cutter or saw through it. The Almax chains are as good as the rest at resisting these type of attacks, but they're not infallible. They're definitely the chains to get, though.

yea i saw the vids on youtube, they are the ones to get.... the point is however i cant imagine no broke ass chav getting hold of a plasma cutter so your bike should be ok with that type of chain i think.

That's exactly the way I see it - any Pikey can get some 5ft bolt croppers, but it's VERY slim odds that anyone is going to be tooled up with anything bigger or noisier!

dude i have to say i think i would be a little worrieg about putting an MV agusta outside a block of flats due to that but i think the humble ZXR will be safe, besides it aint as thoe a plasma cutter fits in your pocket lol plus people would see/ hear whats going on, much better to select another target.

Most thefts are acts of opportunity, professional bike theives tend to only target brand new models rather than risk being caught stealing something that isn't going to turn a good deal of profit unless it could be lifted into a van in seconds. A decent chain will deter most theives from even considering it a target and thats the ones you should be worrying about on a tpft policy because chances are you get the bike back after some chav Camel's knackered it and your insurance won't cover the damage done to it, or it's a loss of a couple of years no claims bonus to have it repaired on full comp all for the bargain price of a chain and padlock.

i have a massive 3/4" marine chain and the tighetest fitting padlock i coud find attached to a ground anchor at my home and a smallish chain i use if i take it anywhere just to prevent the walk away theft's i've had occur to me once and happen to a few mates several times because they didnt even have so much as a disc lock. If someone really really wants your bike though, it's gone. thats no reason to make it easy on em though is it.
