Nice idea in theory, but exectued by the usual Safety Nazi-type twats who have no idea of reality.

Sort out making gloves and full face helmets compulsory first. Or even a protective jacket/trousers. Hell, getting everyone onto stable, technologically advanced sportsbikes instead of 50 year old technologically retarded bikes like Harleys would do more for safety!

Is it supposed to protect my neck in an accident? Because I've never hurt my neck in an accident. Or is it to protect my back? Nope - never done that, either.

I can see it being of use on a ractrack, though...

hay guys, i can answer some questions on these jackets, saw them at the bike show and they are really good, i would have one if i rode to work all the time, in a nutshell they are around £300 for the jacket, the canister is in the jacket so its not on the bike, then there is a tog you need to clip onto your bike, you cant just pull it an the bad goes off because its actually quite hard to do so for instance if you got off your bike and forgot to unclip the tog it would hold your weight. i asked all these questions at the bike show to try and "rubbish" the idea, but what price would you put on safety, if it works im in...
but i dont agree about them making us wear them. what ever happened to freedom of choice. i think they should make airbag trousers too, around like your ankles and knees would be cool.

That's how I'd heard it... however...

That means that if you drop your bike (no doubt at a bike meet in front of a few hundred pairs of eyes), you'd either get catapulted over the top of your fallen bike and faceplanted into the ground, or more likely into that super-expensive R7 that was parked up next to you.

LOL i can well imagine that, i think they need to work out a more effective way to attach the tog or something, say magnets that have sensors on your wheels or something.

From what I gather, there is no intention at the moment to make them compulsory. Just some doctors have said they want it to be compulsory due to the amount of bike accidents.

I think they also say that about full leathers. Saves on body bags i suppose......

£300 doesn't really seem that bad when you think how much money some people spend on one piece suits...But still im not sold on the idea.

I just don't see that it's anything like a primary concern of motorbike crash safety.

i mean if its going to save your life its worth a go surely.
as for leathers, i rarely venture out without mine on, it feels like driving me car with no seatbelt

your not always separated from your bike in an accident and i'd love to see the test where the guy in the jacket suffers massive deceleration from contact with a hard object, these jackets need to go through several more generations before there going to become a good addition to our safety gear. back protectors have successfully protected our spines from serious injury for a long time now and their not a compulsory peice of gear so i can't see these becoming something we have to wear by law.

oh and if people are concerned about serious internal injury to bikers in an accident then maybe the removal of the millions of useless signposts would go a long way towards helping in that respect as i'm sure most of us are aware by now it's not the falling off that kills it's the sudden stops.

To what Jamz said about neck injuries, i dont know about that ! - considering ive got more scars on my neck than ... neck??! thats with placcy surgery, although i dont see how a plastic air bag will stop a piece of metal going through your neck, or glass bursting it, probly make it worse...
And if a collision is going to snap your neck or back it will... weather or not a blow up bag is around it.
Maybe we need these full body suits of armour? ? ?

These would be good for track's though to stop slides and rolls doing more damage, but theres nothing much to collide with on a track. (no matter what anyone says slides are in no way bad... just dont collide with anything or get run over.
On the road - signs, curb, walls, trees and the rest!!!!! You would have to be in a FOOK OFF huge bubble like the ones they go down hill in, maybe thats the future!!!!!!!

Do agree with more emphasis being put on all drivers being more aware mind, mirrors and perhipheral vison and what not < A few adverts on every TV channel should do it, maybe radio... something along the lines of:

' Here ya pure Daftie, nar them shiney things you use to check your still the same ugly fook. . . Use them like your supposed too, and check whats behind you!'

I rekon if we got enuf bikers to support it then we could get far more coverage for safer driving and watching out for motorcyclists

did you write to the goverment or somthnig? every other radio advert i hear now is about looking out for bikes! well done marcie
