I might get some of that actually, easy start is good stuff abut I did hear that the engine can rely on that stuff if you use it often!!! Where do I spray it? In the air filter??!!

Well I just know what to do anymore. I have tried for 4 hours on Saturday to start my bike and to no avail. I have tried easystart but it still wouldnt go. I have checked that I do have a spark, fuel and air and its all ok. It just will not catch. The only thing I can think of now is maybe the timing is out but never had time to check that as it got dark. Any other ideas chaps???!?!!

all the plug leads on the right way and sparks from every one? have you done a compression test?

Yeah all the plugs are on right way round, haven't done a compression test however. How do you do that then??!!

get yourself a compression tester, about £18 from halfords whip a plug out at a time and screw the tester in place, then turn the engine, make sure you read the instructions that come with it or you will blow it up.

Lol mate, I'll give it a try, cheers. So if there is no compresion does this mean that the timing is out??!!!?!

could do yeah, if the valves are opening at the wrong time then the compressed air is being pushed straight out. But could also mean the rings have had it if there is no compression.

Yeah that would just be my luck I think Rob don't you think?? Every engine I've bought on the basis of good faith has been knackered!!!! What ever happened to honesty nowadays??!!! lol

lol, well your luck could definitley be better, you must have toad loads engine of spares now tho?
If you end up getting another engine (the thought makes me cringe tbh), try and get one that can be seen running.
You do have a good spark dont you? A nice thick blue one?

Well its not huge but yeah I have a spark there, although I haven't changed anything from the bike itself just the engine, therefore I presumed the spark would be as strong as it was in the old engine.

check you have your coil wires on the right way, red and green to the coil serving cylinders 2 &3, red and black to coil serving cylinders 1 &4. Dont just dismiss it, i rebuilt mine and the one thing i got wrong was that.

The spark comes from the generator which will be different in each engine. But if you have a healthy spark then its probably not that.
got me stumped here mate

Hi Guys
I'm new here, am pommi in New Zealand coming up for 6 years now. I got myself a few cheap ZXR 400 H models to use for track day projects here.
Love this site and my latest non-runner acquisition was based on potential reading on this site see if I can get it running on a budget.
I came across this thread which sounds similar to my problem and just wondering if there was ever any resolution on it?
I have good sparks, have run the fuel direct to the carbs cos I like shortcuts, no probs with battery etc, plugs are good. It turns without firing though. I was getting a big bang or 2 after applying easy start and with starter continually pressed but no fire up. I'm wondering if its because its been in the previous owners garage for a long time as a project without being able to start it himself. He said the previous owner to him had it running but fiddled with the insides and couldnt start it after whatever that means. Has the engine seized or something?
Think I will try bumping it down a long hill (plenty of those here) to see what happens. But just thinking if the rings are shot as someone mentioned here, does that mean engine stuffed or just engine work?
I'm lucky I got a spare engine anyway but that needs all the head gaskets etc changed, but I really to want to get the current one running its done half the k's of the spare one.
Thanks
Jovo
