Nice one, cheers for clearing that up. Yeah I meant pushing the bar the opposite way your turning when I meant counter steer. Not the sliding round thing you mentioned, that sounds mental. Will continue to ride as normal and stop trying to concentrate on what i'm doing with the handle bars.

I only use the front because my rear is rubbish and most of the time when I am braking the back wheel is off the ground anyway. :smt003

dont think about counter steering at all, just keep riding. it all comes with experience, if your dead set on finding out what it's all about get yourself some race/track lessons. absolutly brilliant things. Tbh i think yor instructor was wrong to talk about counter steering so early in your biking career, all i've ever seen the discussion do is confuse new bikers.

as for braking, always front all the time. i'm not a hero i just dont have any pistons in my rear caliper and i've been to busy/lazy to rebuild the caliper. i find dropping two gears works just as well as my rear brake did.

And rain.. i love riding in the rain. as long as my waterproofs arnt leaking i find i have just as much fun as in the dry.

I am using countersteering permanently as I live in Welkom S.A. We are a city but have only two robots.( Also known as "Circle City") The rest of the city's traffic is controlled by traffic circles... Did take a hell of a long time getting it right tho!!! I feel more in control of the bike at speed through these fast corners using this method.

don't think of it as a correction, more a translation for a mostly UK based audience.

besides, i like 'robots' as a description of them.

as what most people have posted you actually counter steer on every bend except when you've almost stopped. you turn the bars the in the opposite direction of the bend so left bend you turn the bars to the right ever so slightly and vice versa this will drop the bike into a lean. but you dont realise your doing it

another form of counter steering is what i think is called active counter steering or active steering whatever you wanna call it.

this is the same as counter steering but you time when you intend to push the bars in the opposite direction when entering a corner. if done right the bike should go into a lean quicker and you will get through the corner alot smoother.

i could go into it alot more but i cant be arsed

as for the brakes always the front when dry
60% front and feather the rear in when wet
use the rear when filtering and at junctions etc

Not on the 400, but on the ZX7/9 i use the back brake for controlling power wheelies when twatting it. Also use it a fair bit when carrying a pillion 'cos it prevents headbutting.
