Ok so far, i've got all my gaskets and O rings ready to do the head gasket,

first things first i wanted to put my salvaged L9 carbs on the L2 to check that it wasnt a carb problem however the bike wont start at all now.

Fuel smell is coming out the exhaust, and the bike has fired before the carb change, i suspect the fuel/air mix is WAYY out? what should I try?

Thanks again one and all :-D

Look at the workshop manual and set airscrews to standard on the carbs and take it from there.

Cool Thanks MM!

the L9 mixture screws were set to 1.5 turns, the L2 carbs were 2 turns, so the L9 carbs have been matched and the bike backfired with an impressive flame but no go yet, didn't get to try it out properly as the battery ran flat in the process, this is all becoming alot more difficult than i previously thought :( both carbs have been stripped down and cleaned out but seem to be fine its still bugging me that the bike wont start now :-S both carbs have 95 main jets in.. not sure if thats of any help to anyone interested? i guess its just a case of playing with the mixture screws till she runs then get her on a dyno? (provided this even fixes the possible head gasket..)
