Thanks Mark  ...you're making me blush!

No offence taken....it really is whatever works for you. I don't see the point in bleeding them every meeting or even every half a dozen meetings. To be fair, I do usually do them at the beginning of the season and then 2/3rds or so the way through depending on feel, colour of the fluid, number of races, etc. That usually does for me.

I agree entirely with Tirpitz and I would suggest that good quality fluid with good pads should not overheat the fluid anyway and it shouldn't deteriorate over the course of a season. My F-I-L gets frustrated by the BSB teams he sponsors changing brake fluid every meeting, but team mechanics (and often enough the riders more so) insist on it....waste of good brake fluid he always says, but then he says the same about his engine oil being chucked after every meeting as well and I always change that biggrin

All of this said, I changed wheels a couple of times over the weekend and couldn't get the lever pressure the way I wanted it, so I bled the brakes Saturday evening. That's the first time since the start of the season, but it's ironic that it is just after this thread started biggrin

Should have said in my previous thread though that I do clean the pistons after every other meeting and after every meeting if it rains. Gotta keep those pistons moving and avoid binding brakes!

Try using a quality brake fluid like Rock Oil Racing (but then I would say that ) and some Performance Friction 95 compound pads.
Yeah mate, you got any samples? ha ha. Seriously though - I reckon you could be right. When I bought the R6 master and swapped the calipers I thought I was onto a winner......and dont get me wrong, they are obviously much better than standard. Cant remember what pads are in there but they are race..........not PF95 though i know that for defo. Think i will change them and the oil and see how i go...........i only noticed towards the end of a track day at donny the other week to be honest, but im going to see if i can improve them before the anglesey grand now ive got an engine that works! :smt003

You doing it al?

Oh, and thanks to everyone else for your help and advice. Personally I bleed mine about twice a season and thats it.

No mate, I'm either going to do Thruxton with NG or Croft with DP. I stand an outside chance of winning the DP championship despite only having done a few rounds, so that's tempting winks

Alan, do you use brake cleaner (spray by Würth or similar), or soap and water?

It depends how dirty they are really. If it's been raining and there's a fair bit of crap and grit then I'll use soap and water, but otherwise I use brake cleaner (Rock Oil, of course biggrin )

Be careful what you use, some solvents will make the seals swell. Soap, water and old toothbrushes for me.

is it me or is there a little confusion over bleeding (just tweaking each nipple :smt005 to make sure there's no bubbles) and a full fluid swap?

I confess I tweak my nipples quite occasionally, but I only change fluid as part of a full service. My ER6N has done 10,000 miles since 14th May this year (4 months!) still on original fluid in rubber lines on old fasioned 2 pot sliding calipers (unlike most zxrs with 4 pots and braided lines) and still feels great (better than my zxr I mean - nothing i've felt except brick walls compares to the brembo's on an 848 evo!).

Foggy used to have new clutch plates every race - Joey Dunlop used one set for 2 seasons on his rc30....

Lever solid as a rock with a ton of feel.
