on my L model the filler cap also has a screw on the inside under the cap so you cant remove it just from the outside bolts.

Right, the two of you just got me bloody wondering so dug the old tank out.

Just fitted a fuel filler set - unlocked it and placed it in the closed it up, didn't bother with bolts as they would just be coming out again.

So as i thought, with a screwdriver and a cloth underneath it you prize the filler (alloy ring) at the back and off it all pops ! Job done !!

I CAN make a video if you want to see :smt003

That came off because the screw wasnt there, if it was then theres no way its coming off.

Looking at the video, the very top centre bolt being the first, go clockwise and the screw goes in between the 2nd and 3rd bolts. Theres a gap/hole in the sealing rubber for it and should have a thread. Undo the filler cap itself and there should be a hole for it.

This is the screw were on about. If thats there and youve lost the keys you wont get the filler cap off no matter what.

Cheers guy's,

Had a look today and saw what your on about - of course mine is missing so ordered a new one today, don't know if I want to fit it though :smt002

Will need to check the ZRX next time I take it out and see if it's is still in place.

Glad to say not many Pikey's round this way and safe to say what ones there are, 99% will be foreigners vsad

Some Nigerians go about on bicycles scavaging the bin areas - they'll lift anything in their path so I am always aware of them !

To end the debate both the ignition barrel and petrol cap come off with a little bit of persuation and no damage to the tank either. 10 minute job, 10 seconds if you weren't worried about damage to the tank - someone trying to steal your petrol wouldn't be troubled by the security screw unfortunately.
