Replacement Keys

Post by beermaker »

Hi all, been away for a while having a family and stuff but back again! Not sure where to ask this so thought General Topics might be my best bet! Had a bit of a crash a year or two ago on my ZXR and in my infinate wisdom I took the keys out of the ignition in case some one nicked it whilst I went to get a lowloader and a winch (the bike was 20 feet down a bank in some trees - chances of being nicked less than zero!) and as you can guess I lost the bloody key! Don't have a spare and I don't want to sell a kidney to get a new ignition barrel with key, new fuel filler cap with key and new seat lock with key and then also have to carry three keys about! Does anyone know how I can get a new key sorted to fit all three existing locks or do I have to resourt to breaking the locks and using a screwdriver?

Cheers
Philip

do you have an ownersmanual or service book? sometimes the key number is written in there, failing that try contacting a dealer with your engine/chassis number not sure if they have the details that can match it to the key?
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

cheers for the info; haven't got any of the manuals but can try using the frame/engine number or see if there's a number on the lock barrel. Failing that apparently an automotive locksmith can gauge the locks and grind a replacement key from the measurements so may try that :o)
