There have been some peachy posts recently of well thought out / executed plans on servicing their bike.

I have already posted saying who's box I think should be welded - who's yours ?
( Please note: this is just a bit of fun poking so please don't take it personal unless you've blown up your bike )

Come on Mori whats ya problem, Cola isn't a tool last time I checked anyway so dunno what it's got to do with my tool box
I didn't see it as hugely different to using vinegar as they're both acidic, but vinegar is much stronger, and now I think mythbusters tried cola on rust without great results. But hey, one idea down the pan so on to the next eh. On the topic of this have you got a link to any threads of cleaning it out with vinegar? Tried a search but couldn't find much.

Want to know a sure fire way of destroying an engine ? Put sugar in the fuel and run it

one litre of fizzy drink has about 500g of sugar in it, yes I know you will drain it out - what with ? Water & soap ?

Now you have sugar,water & soap residue in your tank - perfect for making an engine healthy.

Wash it out with fuel and you will remove most but not all.

Personally, after using vinegar I would be nuetralizing it with baking soda - should never leave something in an acidic state and washing it doesn't make that go away.

PS. You need tools to remove the tank

Fair point, hadn't crossed my mind about the sugar. The other thing is if I use vinegar I'm thinking that it'll need a bit of agitation/scrubbing to get it off? Not the easiest thing to do in a fuel tank, guess I'll need to find some long brushes or something.

I've used Bilt Hamber's products before and rate them highly so might give it a whirl.
Oh and the fuel tank's already off, managed it easily enough!

also i would not recommend putting an alkalie in your tank either, a few washes with tap water will remove all traces of acid, and coke is only ~pH 4.5, doesnt take that much water to neutralise it.

What about Razzcolio, although he seems to have disappeared from here after his engine lunched on a valve? Not 100% sure that he qualifies mind you, as the tools available to fill his box didn't seem to expand much beyond what was under the pillion seat

Cola is good for de-rusting tanks (i've done 2 recently (not with cola mind you) but if you do use it then try to use Sugar free as the fake sweetener rinses from the tank a lot easier than sugar does and as already pointed out by several people sugar will destroy your engine.

Put some in a pan and heat it on the stove.. when it gets warm it caramelizes and goes sticky and brittle... this builds up wherever the fuel goes.. pistons / rings / valves / bores / exhausts.

Hopefully you remove it all..

I'll post up some pictures of tank-derusting later, had some good results
