(Fixed) Rebuild Fail

Post by MillaMeter »

Hi,

As most of you know, I rebuilt my 400, unfortunatly it's not gone well performance wise. The bike Doesn't like going past 10,000rpm was like it was hitting a rev limiter :( I had the bike dynoed yesturday and it didn't go down well. 34bhp at 10,000 lol The guy then lowered the main jets from 108s to DJ86s! gained an extra 10bhp. We then put it down to something has gone wrong during the rebuild. Ignition failer or something. I mentioned what was changed fresh top end rebuild/ignition wise (loom, stick coil conversion and new inlet camshaft)

Anyway I took the bike back home and started to take her clothes off, I changed the stick coil mod back to the OEM coils checked all connections, inc earth leads. Only to find the earth lead on the negative side of the battery was loose :smt017 Must of forgot to tighten it when I charged the battery last winter oops... I then took her for a spin and got it upto 12,000rpm roughly. Stripped her again and changed the main jets from the DJ86s to 95s. She now pulls like a train! but again, still not too happy above 10,000rpm I can get it up to 14,000rpm now but it's very slow. Could it be she's running lean now?

Is there anything else I should check ignition wise? I'm pretty sure it's due to an electrical fault or something. Could it be sparkies playing up even though they are brand new?

Regards

Hi,

Not as well as I thought she'd do but she has a very healthy engine kicking 60bhp at the rear. Nice and smooth line up to redline so I'm happy. Although before the dyno I did put the snorkel back in which I think knocked the 5bhp off the total.

Before I had about 30% snorkel and 108 mains which did give me the 65bhp and that was with a slipping clutch.

The bike runs so I'm leaving it as it is. :excited
