Well..... It looks like I'll be back on a zxr again soon.

Post by CaNsA »

With the CBR600f getting nicked by some scrotes, used in a drive by, and getting written off by the insurers and loosing my NCB i can only afford to insure a 400cc bike.

Are you selling yours?
Is it in good condition with no engine probs?
Sub- 20k miles on the clock?
Within 250 miles of liverpool?

Let me know what you have got :d

Cheers

And why is he selling it on behalf of his son's partner? Is she incapable of using Ebay? Or his Son? I'd want to speak to the owner, not the owner's monkey, about a bike I was buying.

How many owners has it had? Service history? How long with present owner. (wants a bigger bike but how credible that is depends how long she's had it). It's done an average 3000 miles a year so its been 'used'. I'd be expecting some engine work needed sometime soon, which may or may not be good value depending what his reserve price is (which we don't know). Could be that it already needs the work, hence offloading it. And since when has green / black been mauve / purple? :smt017

Call me suspicious but with the enhancements done to that I'd be expecting it to have been thrashed a bit and I'd be wanting a very good poke around in person (not on the internet) before committing to a deal.

Neo's ad is a lot more detailed, a lot more of the info that a buyer really wants. And receipts available to prove claims. And inspection available. Nice one biggrin

BTW CaNsA when you get your new steed don't be expecting to come on here without any photos young man, or we will have to ignore you :smt003

Plus....

Neo has documented records on the board about work he and Zimm has carried out on the bike - cant get better providence than that me thinks ?

Buy a strange bike you know nothing about or a bike thats had a trail of posts telling you about it's problems, its fixes and its performance ? - No brainer in my book , just my 2p worth.

Tirpitz - you ever sell your bike , DIBS ! Fook ebay matey :smt005

Noob question

Would it be classed as a grey import?

Also, what happened with the stick coil mod you were doing? Did that ever work?

No. The L model was the official UK version, sold through UK Kwak dealers, so wasn't a grey import. It had full dealer support. In fact, IIRC, the ZXR400 L was the ONLY 400 supersport from any marque which was an official UK version. All the competion were grey imports.

Fact that it was unregistered until recently shouldn't matter. Every Jap bike is an 'import', so they can't class it as a grey just because it's recently come from Japan. I think what the insurers regard as a 'grey' (and why they care) is any bike not officially sold here through the dealer network. That means spares are harder to get, hence any damage more expensive to repair. Can't see why that would be an issue here, Neo has fully converted it to UK spec and L bits come direct from Cradelys. For what they care it is a UK registered second hand L in UK spec. Could just have well been sat in a UK dealers all these years unregistered, same difference.

Cheers dude, it makes no difference on the insurance quote though lol

Cheapest is 500
most is £3,745.00 :pmsl

31, 0 ncb, 1 recent claim, 3 (maybe 6) points, not garaged, licence held for 2 years.

I promise you first refusal MM, but we'll probably all be too old for these pocket rockets by the time that happens. It'd be like selling my dog, or something :smt010

I'm definitely getting a bit itchy about adding a project to the shed sometime but it will be keeping the ZXR company, not elbowing it out. ZXR750H or a GSX-R750L are hot faves at the mo. :smt003

Will they give you anything off for security? Would it pay you to get an Almax chain, Squire padlock and groundanchor the bike? Some insurers give you a discount for approved security and Almax kit is approved (plus that set up is the best you can get, uncroppable).

Bummer. £500 might be a realistic quote then. I'm paying £160 with Carole Nash, 0 NCB (just 'cos I've been uninsured for a bit, no claims), 23 years clean license (just not been caught :smt003 ), garaged with all the Almax kit, includes comprehensive breakdown cover. And it's not Liverpool which, not being funny, as you know hikes your premium some.

Tell you why I think Neo's is worth a view. Two reasons-

1. MM is aware of the guy and the bike. We know and trust MM, so if he says the bike's a good 'un then it is. Other sellers are an unknown quantity. Recommendation like that has to add value.

2. Personally I think the 400 market is a potentially fraught one for the buyer. 400s were never a poor man's big bike, they were a premium priced quality class of their own back in the day. Many 400s are crammed with higher spec kit than bigger bikes. The engines are highly developed, high revving kit. The flipside of this is that they tolerate neglect and abuse less well than other bikes. Now we come to the problem - these bikes were often bought by newer, younger riders because they couldn't afford insurance on bigger bikes (yep, I ticked that box :smt002 ) (this still applies today). These riders had less experience in looking after bikes and servicing got skipped, or handed over to dealers (for which read bodged / skimped), they were often not run in properly, they were often ridden unsympathetically (engines raced from cold etc). I firmly believe that many of the engine problems that we see on this forum are as a result of abuse / neglect, not necessarily by the current owner. So in buying a used 400 today you run a greater risk of getting a dog than with other bigger bikes. You need to be even more vigilant, but even so it is hard to find out about neglect inflicted several owners and years ago, which might result in a prematurely knackered bike in during your ownership. So.......... for me Neo's sale is particularly attractive as you seem to be cutting out a major slice of this serious crap and getting a one owner bike that HAS been looked after, proven. That, for me, has gotta be worth a viewing. :smt002
