Searching For Old Riders

One of those 'projects' that gets underway after a few pints.........

So, me and a mate who are not quite as young as we used to be have been reminiscing about the great TTs. We were both there in '92, at the Creg for the Senior, what a race! And time passing as it does you start to think about all the blokes who are no longer around, so we decided to make up a table of all the riders who started that year's Senior and find out what happened to them. For most of the top riders it's easy as there's plenty of information on-line, but some of the lower placed guys don't seem to have any on-line presence. What happened to them? Some might have retired, some might even still be racing at club level etc..

So here are the names we have drawn blanks for (and the then home town as given in the programme). Do you recognise any of these guys? Where are they now?

I was at the TT in 1992.........................and I have some answers for you.

Dave Goodley is retired from racing and he moved to Australia. I knew a little and was also friendly with Nick Morgan who built Daves engines.

Paul Hunt retired from racing at the end of 2008 or 2009...............he always was a fireman and is now a traveling marshal for the TT and MGP

Dereck Young is retired from racing and runs a dyno and engine building business in Lisburn.........I was talking to him last weekend he has so much engine building work that his dyno never moves.

Stanley Rea is retried from racing I dont believe he is currently involed in racing at all

Paul Hunt has retired after a crash
Paul Orritt did retire after his big crash at Bray Hill in 1999. We reckon he lost the use of an arm poor chap.

You weren't racing in the Island in 1992 were you?

Me and my mate are planning on coming to the NW200 next year. Something we never got round to years ago so we're going to get ourselves into gear and raid your Guinness stash

I didnt race on the IOM until 1997..........I was there in 1992 on holiday at the TT............. but from 1992 to 1996 I was at the TT or Manx spannering.

Dave Goodley once appeared on the front page of the Sun as the UKs fastest speeder 150 something mph on a GSXR1100 I think I have that page somewhere


I wouldn't bother with the NW200 far better you should ccome and see one of our smaller road races.............with good timing you could take in two road races in a week.

If the NW was at the end of my street I wouldnt give it a second glance

Well we'll probably come to see it because we never have. If it's gone like the TT nowadays then I know what you mean.

We might very well look into doing a tour to take in some of the smaller road races. Both of us prefer real road racing to the short circuit stuff. Can you give us a few ideas of the smaller races you have so that I can look into things? Tandragee is a name floating around in the cobwebs of my aging memory
