Helmet check

Hi everyone,
I've got an arai helmet with some gravel rash on it but before I condemn it I wanted to confirm it is damaged. Looking on the arai website (http://www.araihelmet-europe.com/2010/o ... -calendar/), it looks like they do offer this service but only at specific events and usually miles from home! Would be good if I could send it somewhere for a check. Anyone know of anyone offering this service? Don't want to bin a useable lid!

Pretty sure Pheonix distrubution do it.Had mine checked at the bsb last time even cleaned it for me.
if your going to the nec bike show Arai have a stand.

Hi Robbie,
not going to be at the NEC I'm afraid. Was it Arai themselves that checked your helmet at the BSB? Did your helmet have visible damage? Did they pass it as ok? I heard that they just condemn everything.. In their interests after all!

I'll get on to Phoenix and see what they say too

Mine had a bit of damage.It wouldnt look right if it didnt. It was Arai themselves said it was throu the paint but not too bad no shell damage.The guy had all the lining etc out.And they asked for my license no and wrote me a letter saying it had been checked and they were happy for me to continue using it for racing.Only ever got asked once by libby to see the letter.Its now useless thou and the shark that i bought thats 2 lids fecked this year

First rule of crashing. keep your feckin head off the ground it makes for a cheaper season.

So far as I'm aware here in Ireland if there is any damage then a helmet is considered not fit for racing however with real road racing we get a lot of very minor stone chip damage which will still allow a helmet to be used.

I crashed at the Manx in 2009 and my helmet was damaged slightly but the scruts allowed me to use it that same day for another race the same helmet was failed the next week at a race back in Ireland..................it is too subjective to be really certain how bad damage is and scruts here tend to err on the side of caution and will fail a helmet.

The only person that truely knows how hard the helmet struck the ground is the man wearing it....................


Ask yourself that question and consider how much you value your head...............then decide

Hey Cargo what are the rules with the mcui When I did the cookstown 100 this year they were very thorou with check on helmet.My prob is Ive now got a nitro helmet and cant find the manufacture date so dont know how I will get on with them next year?
