Hi folks, a crashed up L1 has snuck into my back garden while my missus back was turned found my way on here looking for advice about various mechanical bits and pieces. what a treasure trove of info. the bike is now little more than a rolling chassis and engine, hopefully weather permitting this weekend sees me start to bolt bits back on rather than keep taking them off. been 17 years since I first test rode one of these, hope it's as much fun as I remember!

Welcome Charlie. I am a fellow owner in the region. Am in Leeds but dont get as much chance to ride my L3 as much as I would like. Just a quick mention for our local ZXR guru in Leeds, the venerable Baz (aka Falls off slowly)!. I bought my bike off him and he is a genuine fella. If you need any parts or engine work doing, he's your man. Anyway, hope you get yours up & running soon so you can enjoy the sunshine.

Cheers guys, and thanks for the tip about the local expert. Cam chain has now been checked, new guides are in, valve clearances sorted. Bit's are starting to go back on now. Just brakes to service, some wiring to solder and bodywork to fit. Maybe a change of tyres too if I get time before I book an MOT

On the whole it does seem to be fairly clean and well looked after, aside from a couple of perished hoses and some missing fasteners and clips. Got it mainly built back up and running this weekend, still trying to get it to idle smoothly as it seems to take a little while to drop back to idle when it's revved. And while servicing the front brakes have finally twigged why they had such strange wear on the discs and pads, some muppet had fitted 300mm discs when it should be on 310mm. DOH!
