new to the pocket rocket, in shropshire

Post by gavinfdavies »

my names Gavin, passed my das just over a year ago, and since then have been working on my trusty old gpz500s. Due to either warped forks of frame it's not getting through its MOT, so while i'm fixing that, i've bought a bike as a spare, just something to keep me running about on, just while i fix my old gpz... ahem. that's my story and and sticking to it. i haven't even told the missus yet. or the fact this has been bought entirely on overdraft!

Oh, the new 'run-about' is a zxr400 L5, with braided lines, sintered pads, termigoni end can, double-bubble screen, crash bungs, renthals etc. oh, and pink ally bolts and wheel rims! I wonder what gender the last owner was? Oh, it's the purple/black paint scheme. will post pics later.

coming off the gpz (i know it's an old commuting twin) this thing seems both slow and fast at once. Below 6000 rpm it feels like the throttle cables fallen off! Alot better once about 10k. by comparison my gpz snaps onto the gas at any revs, and is really direct. Possibly something to do with full race system, stage 3 jet kit, ally bellmouths and a quick action throttle.

so that's me then.
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).

i've had the bike two days and already had a near miss with the fuzz! was minding my own business, bimbling down a quiet trunk road on way home, when i passed some fuzz coming the other way.

now, not mentioning speeds involved, i was only doing about 12000rpm in 6th gear, so funnily enough i didn't loiter to see if the fuzz was turning around, i nailed it to 13500ish, shot past 5 cars and a bus, before diverting up a country lane and disappearing into an industrial estate. phew!

can't a guy test his new bike in peace?!

fun little bike, should be interesting as next week i'm going touring!
