New here

Post by Chadatious »

Hey, im new here so i thought id introduce myself, im 17 in the UK, and have my bike test in just under 2 months. I bought a 1989 ZXR400 in mint condition all been powedercoated black and not a mark on it, and looks like it is new out of the show room. However the last owner who was selling it for his daughter said since the rebuild its had a slight misfire on it when riding thats why i got it for a good price. Do any of you have any ideas what it could be, im thinking the carb manifolds, or gaskets?

Thanx
Chad

hi there welcome to the forum.

misfire could simply be plugs or even a iffy HT lead. Id try those first and see how you go.

Ok thanx, :) All of the plugs have been replaced and no difference, and checked all leads and they seem ok, but it seems like its letting in air some where, but because is been off road for 2 years im guna take the carbs off and clean them and see if anything obvious i happening there,

Also to do with the misfire i have just read up on this forum that some one may have an air leak from the revs, i say this as when my bike has been reved it stays at arouns 2-3k revvs for arouns 3 seconds and then drops to the lower mark. Is this normal? or does it mean something?

sounds like the usual carb inlet rubbers but as its been stood could be gummed up carbs or bad fuel or bith.
