Fuel Tank

Post by U_h0rnet5 »

Hi again,

Does anyone know how to get the fuel cap off a tank??? I know there is like a security bolt inside but cannot get to it as I do not have the keys! It was bought in a job lot.

Any ideas would be great (apart from get a hammer and smash it :pmsl )

Thanks
Ciaran

Someone on here once claimed to have removed a fuel cap with no problem turned out the little security bolt and been previously removed. I'm delighted to see your laughing smiley because hammer and chisel is what you might end up using. In the past I have opened a tank by removing the guts of the lock with a screwdriver and a hammer and a pair of pointy nosed pliers once the cap is open you can get the security bolt out. But the cap will never lock again it will close but a screwdriver will open it.

Do you have the ignition barrel or rear seat lock that uses the same key as the fuel tank cap? Could take either of those to a locksmith to make up a key. Or take the whole tank and cap. Failing that, you could try undoing all the allen bolts, see if the security one has been removed.

edit : do you want to keep the fuel tank i.e. is it just the fuel cap you want to use, or do you want to use both?

Im pretty sure the seat lock will open with any key that fits in it, its not a lock like the tank and ignition.

Umm no afraid not, I've undone all the allen bolts a still no give. Might bring it to my local locksmith and see what they can do.

I was pretty much just going to sell it as I don't really need it so it would prob be better if I could get it off without damaging it.

Thanks
