time for a change?

How many of you use the "proper" race change set up, as in down to go up throught eh gears and vice versa? I understand where it comes from as in hooking a gear in road config can be troublesome if cranked over on a sweeping lefthander, but i have only ever found that to be a problem at starkeys at donnington, and just rode around it by short shifting. However, some fella was telling me at the weekend (theres always one in the paddock) that race config does save a second or two a lap over road config. anybody tried it and saw their lap times tumble, or tried it and didnt like it due to the brain ache of riding on the road as well?

Tried it and hated it.
Only ever found one corner where it was a problem with road stylee.

I dont believe it makes much if any difference to lap times....................lots of guys using quickshifters nowdays.............. hate them too.

I use road shift.

Can't see how race shift can save a second. Maybe the guy just gained time at some track and it happened to be the weekend he used race shift for the first time.

Hang on. That must mean that, since I improved my best Oulton time last Saturday just after lunch by a second, that Southern Fried chicken, rice and peas can gain you a second a lap!

i know that pies slow you down by a couple of seconds a lap. Or maybe its the chips. Or chinese. Either way, it makes me slower every meeting.

Cargo, does that mean you have got a sparkly quickshifter you want to sell cheap as you dont like em?

No that really is a load of bollox At best you could argue it might save you a fraction of a second at certain circuits (you mention Donny and arguably that's one of them, but then short sifting at a corner such as that might actually be better as you get better drive off the torque).

Road shift is all I've ever run and I rarley find it an issue. As for quickshifters, I've fitted one this year as I seemed to be getting a bit lazy with my gearshifts last year. I went quicker at Oulton today, but I wouldn't put that down to the quickshifter in any way, just tried harder.

@ lucky 77..............I'll certainly sell my quickshift if you want it it plugged into a box on my zx6 which I'm not certain about removing...............but you can certainly have the quickshifter itself......................................no idea as to the make or quaility but it's an EX Nick Morgan bike it's come off..................PM me................ i just dont know how you guys do it. I can see how i could get to 1.55, but beyond that just seems another planet!

exactly .. all that time spent as a courier is hard to unlearn .. im sure i could improve my laptimes with panniers, shoulder bag and a psychotic donald duck impersonator screaming abuse over an intercom...

saddest thing is.. it took such an effort to remeber that the bike was setup with race shift, that when i went back out having put it back to normal i changed down instead of up halfway through devils elbow at mallory .. which was err .. interesting.

Jake...................lap times are very funny my experience is that the harder you try the slower you will go.
