oil cooler or no oil cooler

There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

And here is my solution to the holes left behind after the cooler is removed.
Not specially pretty but functional

Thanks for the pics. Nice job. Just out of curiosity has anyone weighed the cooler & lines to see how much of a weight savings you get?

Your safety wire job is killing me and doing nothing for your screws. They can easily loosen a half turn and leak everywhere.
Sorry I have a problem. Don't hold it against me.

Fair call it's not aircraft spec lockwiring or drilling............................

But then there is no requirement in race regs for them to be wired at all and certainly Mr Kawasaki doesn't wire them neither does Mr Kawasaki require thread lock...................yet there does seem to be a history of oil cooler screws removing themselves................or at least the 3 guys I spoke to who run ZXRs have had the same problem I had last August.................mine have thread lock and the wire was just a bit of belt AND braces...............take it from me they will not "easilly" undo....................£100 to my favorite charity if they do.

Mr Kawasaki builds exceedingly good motorbikes but Mr Middleton makes them even better :smt002

Im not questioning your motor building abilities, thats great that you can build a fast zxr motor. My point was rather than chime in with some cryptic one liner why not just come out & say I've tried that & this was the result. I understand that builiding motors is your livelyhood but in this case, if running a zx4 sump will lead to a failure or engine damage, why not come out & just state it.......us "animals" would appreciate it.

You just confirmed what I was implying. Using your analogy.....When I do go to a Doctor or GP as you call it, I do ask questions. Its my life. I would be an idiot not to. No one is infallible nor all knowing. Ive found that true professionals welcome questions & enjoy educating people in their field of expertise. Every tuner I've ever used was willing to share everything they were doing with me. I guess if you're secure in what you're doing & a true expert you are not worried about people replictaing your work or results.........

I wasnt implyng that you bestow your divine & all knowing knowledge on us. Rather than some snide comment, either say it doesn't work and why & save someone a headache (or possible catastrophy or even injury) or say nothing at all. No one smugly stated anything about the zx4 sump, just that it might work.

Actually the only smug responses I've ever seen on this board are from a tuner that thinks he's too good for everyone else.......... :ffs
