**Help Required** No lights/ignition
I have recently bought myself a ZXR400 H as a project and done quite a lot of work. The final problem has got me stumped!
I have no power to the ignition key on wires Yellow & Red/Blue. I have taken live to both of these and hey they work. I have replaced the ignition switch, right hand cluster, and fuse box but still have the problem.
Does anyone have any ideas? I could really do with a good quality circuit diagram the one online just isn't clear enough to understand.
Many thanks for your help!
Cheers Matt6186

have you checked the main fuse on the solenoid?

Hi, No its not that.
In the fuse box I have two fuses that have no power going to wires Brown, Blue & Red/White. This ties up with the loss power at the switch but can seem to find where the power originates from?

i take it you have a good tight clean connection on battery terminals? you checked the main earth and power supply from the battery have good connections on the other end?
other than that im not too clued up with the zxr wiring so may need advice from someone else, i would start by cleaning every connection and plug you can see and go from there, then look for broken wires etc, the bike doesnt have or hasnt had a immobiliser has it?

Yes battery connections are good the wiring loom is a mess as its been chopped and taped up in quite a few places. Dont believe its this as I can take a live and put it across the ignition switch to turn over and flash the lights. Do you know with the ignition & lights whether the power comes dirct from the solonoid or travels to the right or left cluster first?

Re: **Help Required** No lights/ignition
wouldnt have a clue mate, sounds to me like a break in the wiring somewhere, i would strip all the tape of the wiring loom, then rejoin all the bodged bits properly , and go from there, then you have eliminated that, thats what i would do firstly, then go from there, i bet you find a break somewhere

All electricial power is supplied via the starter soloinoid..................as that is the only connection to the + side of the battery.
Sounds to me like the main fuse attached to the solinoid is gone 30amp I think

Re: **Help Required** No lights/ignition
possibly the starter solenoid itself, try giving it a 'tap' as it might be stuck from not being used in a while.
if not you can bridge the wires to make the starter turn or the connector for the ignition lights to show that its the soleniod is faulty

Hi, Starter solinoid is good as I have jump this and check resistance. Will check the wiring as loom. Cheers

Re: **Help Required** No lights/ignition
white wire goes straight from starter relay near battery to fuse box and to ignition switch. This is the permanent live. So check for voltage on the white at both fuse and ignition and near the starter relay. If there is no voltage on the white at the starter relay then it must be the relay or connection to the relay. If voltage at relay but none at ignition switch and fuse box then there must be a break before the wire splits to these components. If voltage at fuse and relay but not at ignition then break is nearer the ignition switch. Little bit of multi meter detective work required
These things are sent to try us!!

Hate wiring problems love a man that explains it in a way I can grasp.

Re: **Help Required** No lights/ignition
Thanks for your input, it ts really appreciated.
I am on the same lines as you as I believe its a loose connection, but where!!!
I have 12v at both fuse box and ignition switch on white. However coming off ignition switch I have no power on yellow or Red/Blue. This corralates exactly as one is lights the other ignition as I have put 12v over this. The ignition switch is new as I originally thought it was this. The fuse box is also is a replacement, however I have no power over the second half of the fuse box wires Blue Brown & Red/white.
Any ideas

Re: **Help Required** No lights/ignition
Cargo, many thanks
matt6186;
First off, at the fuse box, you say there is no power on the blue, brown or red/white. Is that correct?
2nd, there is power on white at ignition switch, is there power on brown at ignition switch when switched to on (as brown is your switched positive)?
Brown from ignition switch goes direct from to brown at fuse box. So If brown is live at ignition but dead at fuse box then break in the brown wire. Solder in a new piece of wire from brown at ignition to brown at fuse box ( do not just cut and discard old brown, need to still leave this attached as brown feeds everything switched).
Head and Tail lights should now work.
Let me know if this works, if not pm me, i'll give you my number and talk over the phone, might be easier and quicker.

Re: **Help Required** No lights/ignition
Nice one, many thanks for that. Bit the bullet and bought a new used wiring loom and Now have lights, however no ignition so half way there. Will go through and find the fault hopefully tomorrow.
Cheers
