zxr kit pistons

There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

zxr kit pistons

Post by toecutter »

Hi Folks
sorry i have not been on for a while ,ive been busy with my business (12 to 16 hour days) ,looking after my grandad and the usual things life throws up and i really never have much time to myself .

so here goes

the pistons are finally done as a few of you have seen on e bay .If you read through the text there are two types of pistons
road ,which is a 3 ring piston
race which is a 2 ring piston im just waiting for the rings to be finished and they are then available .
There will be a constant supply of rings available as this is a long term project along with other bikes i am covering with Omega Pistons.
The rings are unbreakable cast iron and give a much better seal to the bore than standard type rings, its to do with their sectional dynamic flexibility ya see
Ill post up the full technical specs for you over the next day or so but i see some one has asked the compression ratio is 13 -1 , and the squish are has been specificaly designed to match the head of the zxr .there is alowances in the piston crown for machining to suit your own head as many have been tuned in all maner of ways
Im just waiting for Nico to get back to work at Omega (flow and combustion dynamisist and all round brain box )but he stuffed his supermotard and has been in hospital and then i can give you the full write up ,(there is to much for me to remember )
These pistons have been specifically designed for this motor (not just slugs of ali machined up to somewhere near ) which involves an awfull lot of work, ie me supplying stripped motors ,sourcing original kit pistons (thanks mike ) ,computer modeling of the motor etc etc and are made by probably the best in their field in high performance pistons ,look em up and see what they have done and for who .www.omegapistons.com
When i first started some of these projects with Omega they had to have a board meeting as to wether they would take on the work as they dont want their name bringing into disrepute and believe me i had to grovel.
Price wise they are not much more expensive than Je pistons ,they are a far better product and if you want bespoke engineering its expensive

There are a few reasons why i do these projects the main is my love of bikes ,i live and breath them ,its not my day job which i detest but im good at what i do and it pays me well so im stuck with it , but this is an inroad into me doing something i really enjoy
the other is that Mrs toecutter has two zxr race bikes and as usual with some of the older bikes parts are becoming difficult to get so i took it on to reproduce the pistons as there are still so many zxr,s racing .
Please dont think this is someone out to make a quick buck its not i take imense pride in what i do, you want to see the stuff ive done with the RC30 .
There are also Omega pistons for the Rc 30 going into a Harris F1Rc being built by Brian Capper of BGC Performance Engineering look him up and if he is happy with them you can be sure they are good enough for us he wouldnt accept any old tat
and please dont forget this project comes out of my own pocket and it really isnt cheap as i pay up front for all of the work, you are also welcome to go through all of this work yourselves and get your own done but i can tell you itll have you pulling your hair out
hope that gives you more of an insight into this work

Rob, will your new rings fit standard pistons? How much are the rings?

Cheers, Rich

Max, thats why I am asking as I already am in contact with a couple of companies to make 0.5mm rings, but if Robs fit I wont persue it and he can make some money from his efforts selling rings also.
