I appreiciate Roger that these engines have been around for over 20 years, and they have had great hands on them over the years. My statement of 'and possibly offering a new and different angle on things maybee missed by others? who knows.' is not a statement of fact, hence how i worded it. Im merely trying to suggest that there are other guys who are passionate about the zxr too, and they have something to bring to the table also.
Everyone has there favorite engine guys. A post comes up asking 'who can tune my engine?' gets the responce that proves this statement... and for every tuner on that list, im pretty sure someone will have a horror story and a victory story.
As i said tho, i agree with you and stephen, definatley buyer beware with any engines
And also as said, this was not aimed at you roger, or anyone in particular.

Re: any race engines for sale?
With all respect 'Darenor'....i dont think there will be many 'engine tuners' that will give you a price and spec for engine work on an internet forum...One big question anyone will want to know...is how good is your donor engine?? and is it an sp?...it could be a high mileage 'nail' or a low mileage sp...the price can vary immensly....of course some would base a price for a tune and rebuild based on a high mileage 'nail' that wants for everything...but that isnt my style....in fact our 80+bhp bike is using 1989 H pistons...and the only time it was stripped this year was when it was protested at Olivers Mount Scarborough and we got paid £300 to prove it was 398cc...so my point is 'all new' inside isnt neccesarily warranted or economical if components are within service limits. My contact details can be found on... http://www.rmkd-racing.blogspot.com should you want to contact me for further help or advice..

Put your engine on a pallet and send it to Roger. Include a little note that says make it a fast one
Thats easy as well...................beg steal or borrow a pallet from anywhere...................they can often be found in skips or at your local recycling centre..................I get mine from work dozens of them free gratis.....................Put your engine on the pallet if need be tip it over so it will ballance and or support it with wooden blocks. Now use one or two tie dowm straps to secure it add a bit of protection like build a little box around it from plywood,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,once you finished stick rogers address on it and phone a courrier company to come and pick it up and take it to him. There is a company in Ireland......................that can take a pallet to England for 65 eure they adrvertise on telly........................and yes I do think you live in Ireland I've seen you on biker.ie
Cost of the actual tunning job ?? that does NOT matter assuming you ARE a racer and you want to go faster..........cost is not important..................going faster is vital faster is what you live for doesn't matter how much it costs..............................just do it.
BTW if your nearby to me I'll give you a pallet FOC........like I said I get dozens of them...............why ? cos I burn em to keep the house warm Why ? cos heating oil costs money lots of it....................and pallets mean free heat.....................free heat means more money for me to spend on racing...................easy really.
If you really want to race you gotta make a few scarifices.................................

Re: any race engines for sale?
Roger/Jake...............good discussion this.
Certainly I'd say that any real development work on 400s is long since finished the'good ones have been making 80 and a bit ponies for years now.......................just like 500GP two strokes they go so fast and got no faster................
What makes the difference now to a 400 is how well it's been put together....................and that largerly depends on who put it together....................too many "tuners" end up as a business with employees and and so some spotty youth with crap wages ends up building your engine........that spotty youth has little or no passion for the job vand so you get rubbish badly built engines.......................the best tuners in racing IMHO are those who remain a one person operation and ignore the money to be made form growing bigger.
I've seen this myself with one certain engine building/tuner I know of who hasnt touched a customers engine in years yet makes a very tidy living from those said customers while devoting his real energy into one paticular race team....................who pay him very well. Notice how I avoid names.
So your both right.

"Daroner"
Ive got to be honest with you mate when i 1st started on my zxr400 i was put into contact with roger(RMKD) and arranged to drop an engine off at his however i brought it close to the 1st race and roger as always was busy and didnt no if he could tune it in time,me been me and inpatient i went to another "tuner" promised to get it me back in time for 1st race-did that, however raced it 3 times and it went bang, and i mean big time-engine was f**ked :smt013 ,tail between my legs rang roger, after a little begging he did me an engine that i have never had a problem with to this day, apart from roger doing the refresh as all engines need,my advice ring roger he will advise you on the best way to go
