starting woes

i`ve bought another old zxr as a project it hasn`t run for a while so cleaned the carbs and away she went no probs and for the past couple of weeks its started easily,so i balanced the carbs everything was fine put fresh fuel in now it won`t go it had what looked like weak sparks so put in new plugs cleaned carbs again still nothing, valve clearances are fine,carbs are filling up with fuel,but it won`t even go with a squirt of easystart,it is sparking but i`m wondering when i put the plugs in the engine maybe the ht leads or caps could be shorting out as they are old leads,it doesn`t have any carb balance pipes on the inlets just blocked off but it went okay before can`t understand how it`s just stopped working any help would be much appreciated

The important bit of your post is "I balanced the carbs"
You say the bike was fine before you balanced the carbs and after you'd done it it won't start.
Logic would suggest that in the process of balancing your carbs you've done something to cause the bike not to start.
Retrace your steps and double check everything that you touched.

you can cut the leads back and screw the caps back in to make a better fit if you think these are the proplem.
if the balance pipes on the head are removed and not blocked the bike wont run.make sure they are blocked off properly and securly.

after i balanced the carbs it was still running ,starting easily it was a few days later it wouldn`t go,would faulty leads or the caps maybe making spark arc out onto engine when down in the plug holes?when i screw the caps on they never get tight just turn round and round they are on but not what i would call really tight fit not the original leads or caps

cut the lead back and screw the cap back in they should then screw in tightly, i would still go and check the balance pipes are blocked off properly and hasnt come loose or something.

It still could be that something you have touched even accidently could be the cause...............like I said retrace everything you've done and double check

success got rhe bike running tonight took apart every connection cleaned them checked the pick up coil out then put different ht leads on not sure which fixed it maybe a bit of everything but she fired up well,should`ve tried starting it after each job i did to see if that was the problem but i had the carbs off and didn`t want to flatten the battery
