Ignition

Post by SixOne »

Came off my bike yesterday in a relatively gentle low-side, bike was still running when I picked it up but I turned it off to sort myself out. Now I can't turn it on, I have lights on the dash and a rear light but the electric start won't do anything at all. I've checked as many of the connections as I can and they all seem to be ok, does anyone know whether it's likely the started solenoid will have been damaged when I dropped it? I've got no front light either and the bulbs are fine and the connectors seem to be ok so I'm assuming this is a problem with the relay as well? But my main worry is the ignition, anyone got any ideas? Tim

kill switch off?

if you can, short the terminals across the starter motor. If it spins you will at least know that its an electrical problem and not with that starter motor. Which side did you drop it on? I think the starter solenoid is sat on the left hand side of the bike and its possible that its been squashed by the seat panel in the fall.

Went down on my right hand side, so I guess that would be unlikely in that case. Yeah, checked the kill switch! As I said, got power elsewhere just won't do anything to start, will try and get the starter motor to turn as you said and hopefully I'll have some idea then! Thanks, Tim
